Looks terrible to me. I just dislike Tarantino's current style and his casting of uncharismatic big names. I also can't believe how you can take such a real life tragedy and turn it into something like this.
sharethat would rule out a lot of movies.
shareWhat do you mean?
sharetragedies.
shareI didn't say I don't watch movies about tragedies.
shareThis particular tragedy has been covered in many movies. I will wait before prejudging it.
shareI'm not sure how it matters that other movies have covered it before. It's about the way this movie covers it. If it was simply a story set against the backdrop of Hollywood at the time of the Tate murders, then maybe. But this is something else. Like you said it, "looks like fun". That's definitely not what it was.
I know Tarantino by now, it's going to be farcical. I actually know how the plot develops and it's dumb.
Sharon Tate’s Sister Loved Margot Robbie in Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

Just seems like a creepy way to bring her sister back to life (although Robbie doesn't look a thing like her).
Tate was not Manson's only victim. I could see why relatives would like a certain aspect of the movie, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. It's actually pretty tasteless. And just more of the same thing that he's been doing for years
Tarantino should also stop using big names. It does not fit the low budget style he supposedly tries to achieve.
But, to my knowledge, Tate was his most famous victim. I'm sure the average Joe moviegoer would want a film about a victim they already knew the name of than someone they didn't.
shareNo, I don't mean that this movie should have spent more on the other victims. I mean that the opinion of just one family member doesn't mean the relatives of all the other victims are okay with it.
With "big names" I actually mean the actors.
i'll leave it to smarter people than me to be the final judge on such matters, but i thought sharon tate was treated very respectfully in this film, in a way that surprised me and genuinely moved me.
shareSharon Tate wasn't the only victim of Manson and his followers, though.
Portraying her as beautiful and kind does not mean that the whole idea isn't tasteless and exploitative.
Have you actually seen the film yet? I haven't. But my buddy did and he loved it. Didn't seem to think it came across as exploitative.
shareNo, I haven't. I actually find the whole idea of turning this tragic event into a historical revisionist farce exploitative. I had hoped Tarantino had grown past such immaturity.
shareWe are going to see this movie despite the three hour length. The movie starts in 45 minutes - a nice way to end this quiet vacation week.
shareI saw it and did enjoy it. You have to be a fan of movies, TV and pop culture in general to appreciate this movie. It could have been shorter. Focusing on Dalton and the Western pilot and the young girl just seemed like padding to me.
Margot Robbie was fine as Sharon Tate but her role wasn't that substantial. The audience seemed to like the alternate history aspect of the movie. This is entertainment not history. A great soundtrack.
The ending was sad but touching. It made my wife cry. 8/10 for me.
is this better than inglouris basterds
shareI liked it better. Very nostalgic.
shareMuch better in my opinion. I also had reservations about all the big name stars but man did it work. Loved it!
shareI have seen that one and loved it. But I feel like stories of nazi and nazi hunters and Sharon Tate is more apples and oranges.

I saw it today and really liked it. My rating would be a 9/10. I would rank it as the 3rd best film of this year and Tarantino's 3rd best film.
shareI liked it also. Something different I thought.
shareWhat's your other 2 films for the year? and how would you rate Tarantino's films?
shareAvengers Endgame is currently my number1 (10/10) and Toy Story4 is my number 2 of the year (9/10). My Tarantino ratings:
Pulp Fiction 10/10
Hateful Eight 10/10
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 9/10
Reservoir Dogs 9/10
Inglorious Basterds 9/10
Kill Bill vol 1 9/10
Jackie Brown 8/10
Kill Bill vol 2 8/10
Death Proof 7/10
i currently have once upon... slotted as my #4 for the year, behind climax, endgame & apollo 11.
shareMy buddy saw it earlier today. He said it was his fav film of 2019 so far. (Didn't specify if it was also his fav Tarintino film) he said his only problem with it was the length. But...it is Tarintino, after all. I haven't gotten around to it yet. But I plan to.
