Both are excellent movie makers imo
I think some of the criticism comes from a younger crowd wanting to seem hip and edgy, hating on the art that came before them
Jaws, Taxi Driver, E.T., Goodfellas, Saving Private Ryan, Mean Streets...
C'mon, is it even possible to disrespect these guys??

And, going by what I know of some of the posters here, a few older people too who also seem to think it's hip, and possibly edgy, to hate on anything that reeks of popularity.

I've got to be careful here. I don't want to make any (more) enemies.
But there are a few threads on this board, and the Schindler's List board, that make me think we have a few Spielberg and Scorsese haters here. And that's perfectly fine. It's their prerogative. I just don't get it.
I bet you could be though👍
You gotta dig deep for the entertainment and comedy...I go for it often and agree that it's really hard (I miss half the time LOL...)
How's about you get off your political butt and attack this site with silly games, dumb comedy and random stupidy with me from now on?
I'd be pleased to work with a tenacious fellow like you
Thanks for laying off me and reaching out. You're displaying the reasonableness I associated with you, which is why your earlier attacks were so baffling to me.
I'd expect them from some other posters here, mostly, but not exclusively, those on the far-right of the political spectrum, and maybe a few of the more zealous ones on the far-left, but you seem(ed) like one of the nicer posters here, and LauraGrace hadn't given me any shit before, so I was at a loss to understand where the abuse was coming from.
Oddly enough, until today I did take you to be one of the easiest and most amiable posters here. Until today, you'd given me zero shit (like I say, that's why it hurt more to be so harshly criticised by you than it might have done to be criticised by certain other posters here).
But you're right, I am not an easy person. I am very uptight. Even when I get that people are telling a joke, I can't always take a joke (most of the time I'm good at detecting sarcasm, and yet it's still my default to take people seriously and at face-value). Still, I forgive easily and I don't hold anything against anyone. If someone apologises or is willing to build bridges, I'm more than willing to let bygones be bygones. I've got no time for harbouring anger towards people, and, as long as they're civil, I'm willing to engage with 'enemies'.
But thanks for your words, 'you stand up for what you believe in'.
I don´t hate Scorsese but to me he is one of the most overrated directors. Goodfellas is probably the most overrated movie of all time right after The Dark Knight.
The worst was when they are walking through rubble, and a GI asks, "Who are you?"
"I'm Ryan"
hooray!
I'm not a fan of Spielberg, not his movies, or his latest head-case power move, wanting to eliminate any competition so his movies can be given sympathy awards.
I love Taxi Driver, but 99% of that was Paul Schrader's script (which is online, he describes every detail) and Robert De Niro (who hasn't done shit in over 20 years)
