Best Classic Kidnapping Movies

From any country.. By the 80s, I think 99% of them got ridiculous, and just titilating audiences with violence and nudity, but with no meat and potatoes, and bad writing..

Some good ones I first think of..
-The Collector (Wyler)
as well as a few Japanese movies, "Blind Beast", "The Insect Woman" "Pleasure of the Flesh"

I mean, obviously, Raising Arizona.

good call!

The Last House on the Left (1972)

reply

no ones mentioned "Breakdown" with Kurt Russell

reply

Is it anything fast-paced like Liam Neeson thriller, "Taken"?

reply

I guess it is yeah, lots of action , with suspense ,mystery , a couple of twists... A guys wife goes missing while theyre on a road trip, he has to find her . He's not a superhero like neeson - just a normal guy. I like films where extraordinary things happen to normal people.
I remember thinking just after watching it , i wasnt groaning at the tv going "why didnt he just do xyz"

reply

I saw your post in the individual "Breakdown" thread about the bad guys being so bad, they're totally despicable. Sounds like an all-out adrenaline rush. I'll watch it next week.

Ones already mentioned plus,
Ruthless People
The Berlin Syndrome

A Crooked Somebody was released 2018 and has Ed Harris in a supporting role. It's an okay movie if you like stories where the lead character gets himself caught up in his own web of lies because he's trying to manipulate his kidnapping situation as a way to further his career.
