Do Americans feel embarrassed regarding Meghan Markle's family situation?

It used to be that if you were to marry into the Royal Family, you had to be from a noble family, or royalty from another country.

Is the Markle family American royalty? Oh hell no!

I'm Australian, but even I sort of cringe regarding her situation. I feel embarrassed for her! The analytical part of me says "well she knows her family and she chose not to deal with these issues a long time ago."

She should have contacted her family before the engagement and said "you're all invited, we're going to play happy family, please don't talk to the press or give interviews, just comment if asked "we're delighted for Meghan." Not just contacted, probably meet them with Harry and smooth things over.

Instead we have the half sister saying that she wants to write a book called "Pushy Princess." We have a half brother saying that Meghan is trying to play Diana.

Now the father has been caught out staging photos of him surfing the web about his daughter, getting fitted for a suit, lifting dumbbells and reading a book on English castles.

This has been a PR disaster.

I know I don't give a shit about anything the Royal family does or anything her family does.

I don't know a thing about Meghan Markle, other than she's an American actress. I've never seen her anything but since this wedding was announced, I see her photo everywhere. She seems like a beautiful, smart, young woman.i read that she's a Northwestern grad. That's impressive. I couldn't care less if English people don't think she's his equal.

The English Royals haven't been moral paragons themselves. Prince Andrew was named as one of Jeffery Epstein's (uber wealthy, convicted pedophile, friend of Trump) guests at the underage sex parties he hosts. That tidbit fell under the radar this past year because of all the crazy Trump news in our country.

Fergie was caught trying to sell access to the royal family. When it happens with Meghan Markle's family, Americans didn't set the precedent.

I think all former Colonies feel "less than". Australia is still part of the Commonwealth so maybe it's a bit more class conscious but I don't think most Americans give a hoot. That being said, I wish the best for them. They seem like nice young people.

I was in America in 2011 and Prince William and Kate’s wedding was a big deal. Me and my neighbors watched it together at 3am, and the coverage started at 10pm, so I think the royals are a big deal stateside.

Plus I went to the BAFTA awards in Los Ángeles and a who’s who of showbusness turned up, from Jennifer Lopez to Barbara Stresisend to Chef Ramsey and Tom Hanks. But the crowd went crazy when Kate and William turned up.

I personally think that Meghan does like Harry, but is very motivated by the idea of becoming as famous as Diana. I don’t think she’ll be the placid wife that Kate turned out to be.

I think you misunderstood my reply. I agree that Americans like the royals and get excited about weddings. Believe me, A LOT of gossip and scandal tabloids are sold over those circumstances. The point I was making is Americans do not give a sh*t what English people think of us in regard to Meghan Markle's family situation.

Leave it out, family is family and she's making a new one with Harry.

It is all very cringe worthy. She should have known this was all gonna blow up in this situation.

Who? lol

Look no further than supreme leader to see what America has to be embarrassed about.

I don't pay enough attention to any of that, or royalty in general, to be bothered by anything.

All I hope is that the honeymoon video leaks!!!

reply

Why would I be embarrassed? I'd like to see her family invade the royal residence like the Beverly Hillbillies. Great reality show.
