Your favorite sports movie

I've been pretty vocal about my distaste for professional sports, but occasionally I like to watch a sports movie. I am a softy for hockey, and I'm from Minnesota, so I quite like The Mighty Ducks. Also, Sudden Death with Van Damme is like a sports thriller which I like, and in a similar vein, Snake Eyes. Also I like Rudy. What are your favorite sports movies?

Pride of the Yankees
Slapshot

I like Slapshot, know any other good hockey movies?

Mystery, Alaska
Miracle

reply

I love Miacle, never seen Mystery, Alaska but I remember the trailers from when it came out. Will check that one out.

reply

Mystery, Alaska is a wonderful gem of a movie. So true, so genuine, so good.

Old school Rob Lowe hockey movie.

Goon

reply

Yeah I like that one too

reply

Rudy!

Runners up would be Miracle, A League of Their Own and Cool Runnings.

reply

Ooh I like A League of Their Own, every Penny Marshall movie is amazing, except perhaps Jumpin' Jack Flash, which is just ok

reply

Love those too! A League of Their Own is so funny and it really holds up.

reply

I don't like sports movies but I LOVE the Warrior (2011). Great performances from Hardy, Edgerton and Nolte, who is one of the greatest actors ever.

reply

I love Nolte too! Haven't seen it but I will now. Have you seen Peaceful Warrior? Also Nolte and excellent. Sport is gymnastics, which doesn't seem like it would be good, but it's super Zen.

reply

I've seen Peaceful Warrior a couple of times, it's really good. But Warrior is on another level, Nolte gives a heart breaking performance and I think it's impossible to watch that movie without tearing up. Powerful stuff.

reply

I'm on it

Thank you to the Washington Examiner and @CortesSteve on the great article - on WINNING!]]]

The POTUS & John Wooden. Sure, this movie ain't over yet, the ending has been in extreme peril day one. But, I like the old man's chances.

Roger Marris and Mickey Mantle race to break Babe Ruth's Single-Season home run record.

The film follows the surf and skateboarding trends that originated in Venice, California during the 1970's.
