Examples of some great ones I have seen...

-Ana-ta-han
-La Caza (The Hunt)
-Hell in the Pacific
-Lord of the Flies

Misery, still holds up today, it is a timeless classic, that doesn't rely on effects just suspense and great chemistry between the two leads.

That's exactly what I like about this movie, and why I love the movies I mentioned earlier... The writing and acting should be sufficient if the artist is talented (and not lazy with CGI).

I'll have to check those out at some stage.

But, the killing of the old man is kind of a cheat and still sticks in my craw. It out of joint with the movie's track and is put there to tie up a lot of lose ends. We know Caan has to kill, or, disable Bates in order to get out. If he kills her without her killing the old man it's a conundrum. By sacrificing the old man, especially shooting him in the back Caan is (righteous) to kill Bates. Simply fleeing without killing the old man allows the justice system to once again deal with Bates. Then the movie doesn't (end).

I have read the book, but not since high school. Might be worth it to have another read.
