Remember the good times at these..............

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WkxXIrSjY1Y/U58Ct6zACZI/AAAAAAAAFes/KKob5FCUoEA/s1600/TenCommandmentsDriveIn.jpg

As a kid we went quite a bit. First my parents would take us and once I got my drivers license I would go with friends or my girlfriend. I remember when we first started going it was hard to hear the movie but then they had it so you could tune it into a radio station. Got any good memories of going to drive-ins when you were growing up?

I miss the Drive In so much. Ours went out of business in the early 80's. The land is now a golf course.
I remember going with our folks when I was just a little girl. I remember seeing Goodbye Charlie with Debbie Reynolds and Tony Curtis the first time we went.
As I got older, I went with my older sisters. Later, as a teenager I went with boyfriends.... always double dates. The final time I went was with my husband. We saw An American Werewolf In London.

The great thing about it was that you could be comfortable in your own car and you could bring your own snacks and your beverage of choice. My husband and I could sit back and enjoy a brew with the popcorn I made at home. At the time, we lived only less than a mile from the outdoor.

The only movie I remember seeing at a drive-in was The Empire Strikes Back. The best movie from my favorite franchise and still one of the best films ever made, in my opinion. So, definitely a good memory.

I wonder how many are still around.

TexasJack asks: I wonder how many are still around.

Going to bed now but tomorrow I have a link that tells you every drive-in that is still open in every state.

The Empire Strikes Back has always been my favourite Star Wars movie. The characters, the special effects, all of it was better than any of the others. Didn't see it in a drive-in, although I do have a few good memories of drive-ins.

Cat,

(Clearing throat) Uh..huh! And what good memories do we have? As for me, what happened in the drive-in....stayed in the drive-in!

I'm 40, so I do remember a few being around, but I never got around to trying that out.

For me, the theater is the real deal. Great sound, big screen, stadium seating, reserved seats, hot dogs with nacho cheese sauce poured over jalapenos, and of course a nice big salted pretzel.

Fine nothing wrong with the theater. But doing this under the stars is something I will never forget.

I will be back soon with that drive-in link I told you all about.

😅😂🤣😏 I’m really having a difficult time writing this! I can’t quit laughing; you know me too well.Movies? What Movies? Somehow that blasted speaker kept falling off the window! 😏 Did you see my post about the “Come to MaMa” underwear for ya’ll?

I remember going to the drive-in with my family. Most of the time it was the only way we got to see movies. Going to a theater was too expensive for us (family of eight). We kids were dressed in our pajamas because inevitably the younger ones would fall asleep before the movies ended (we usually watched double-features), That way my dad could carry the sleepers straight to bed afterwards. I recall seeing quite a few Doris Day movies, westerns, and plenty of Disney movies, too. Good times.

We don't have drive - in this country...

reply

Is that photo a real place? I was going to say that the background is so amazing it would be distracting but I guess someone in a car would be down too low to see all of that.

reply

Just click on your state. You may be surprised to see a drive-in not to far from you that you did not know about.

Thanks! There isn't one near me, but there is one in the next town over from my dad's place, and it turns out it's the oldest operating drive-in in the country. They've been there since 1934.

I vaguely remember barely being able to hear the speaker out of the box.

Then, it started to pour.

I know what you mean about the speakers. But shortly after I started going to the drive-in they had it so you could tune the sound in on a radio station and you could hear it fine. As for the rain we would always keep a close eye on the weather and if it looked like rain we would not go.
