Why are masks considered a political issue?

I suspect it has to do with Donald Trump and his hesitation to wear a mask, but I'm curious what you think of this.

“The state of Iowa is putting parents back in control of their child’s education and taking greater steps to protect the rights of all Iowans to make their own health care decisions,” Reynolds said in a statement. “I am proud to be a governor of a state that values personal responsibility and individual liberties. I want to thank the Iowa Legislature for their quick work in bringing this bill to my desk so that it can be signed into law.”

Pandemics are a public health issue.

Public health and personal choices are not good mixers.

"personal choices" = murdering babies

OMG

reply

Stick to the topic.

I wonder if they'll repeal laws requiring seatbelts or prohibiting drunk driving. Those are personal responsibilities, too. Whatever. I'm staying the hell out of Iowa.

reply

OK Bircher.

Why are some Americans stupid enough to blame everything on Donald Trump, as if America is the center of the world? Guess what, there are anti-maskers outside of America too, there are nations that never passed mask mandates because no one wanted to wear them like Sweden.

reply

I don't blame everything on Trump, but he is definitely a huge contributor to why mask are so politicized. God knows why, but people listen to that moron, and in the early days of Covid, he was using the biggest platform in the country to call the virus a hoax and make sure everyone knew he wasn't wearing a mask. He changed it from being a minor inconvenience in the interest of public health to a left vs right issue.

reply

So you blame everything on Trump and refuse to simply accept the truth that Humans are all horrible and they don't need some horrible leader just to justify their own horrible actions.

It didn't matter who was in office, it was always going to be political. Of course horrible humans can't accept this horrible truth that humans are horrible regardless of whether they have a horrible leader to blame for how horrible everyone is.

reply

It shouldn't be. Just the constant shifting of some people that makes it confusing if not frustrating. Fauci for example keeps jumping all over the place and the way he words things makes you despise him even though he wants to play neutral. Just the way he handles it doesn't help the situation is what I think. Another is conflicting doctors have 'different' opinions rather that different situations based on their area of where they work. The last one is people think they're 'diapers' for some reason. I wish we put these people in the operating room without the docs wearing masks to see how they'll handle it.

reply

it went from no masks, to 1 mask to 2 masks back to no masks...talk about insanity...

reply

Go see a psychiatrist if you are insane.

It's a personal matter.

reply

Fauci was insane, he couldnt make up his mind, i just wore the whole box on my face.

reply

Keep it that way.

reply

Basically the left wants us to feel that we need to be afraid of the virus so they can squeeze as many political points as they can out of it. Everything the left does is about politics and giving them more power, they couldn’t care less about you and me.

reply

Because the anti-vaxxers heavily side with republicans, and democrats had the gall of telling people to wear masks.

reply

You act like Democrats didn't politicize this issue too. Trust the science, remember? Except when the mandate was lifted and progressives got scared.
