Today I was called a misogynist

For using the word, "congresswoman." I didn't say anything good or bad about anyone in particular, it was the word that triggered her. For a second I wasn't sure if it was a joke but she was serious. I was literally speechless. What do you say to that?

reply

I think it's a bizarre and weird PC thing to take offense to, but it is a real thing.

It first came to my attention when Tennessee Republican congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (who insists on being called congressman) was questioning Al Gore in House testimony about global warming. She was trying to insinuate he was doing it for the money. Al Gore, being from Tennessee himself and familiar with Blackburn, repeatedly started referring to her as "congresswoman" instead of "congressman" to annoy and piss her off.

I thought it was hilarious. Though the same thing could never happen now in the hypersensitive PC climate we have today. Al Gore would have gotten reamed if he did what he did 11 years ago today.

reply

Yeah, she said something like 'you're being misogynistic using that word, congresswoman.' And then started bashing Omar and Tlaib as anti-american and praising Trump. It was a weird thing.

reply

Damn! So she's being selectively PC when it's convenient.

You could have called her out on her bullshit because "congresswoman" is still widely used in popular vernacular without it being deemed offensive. MSM uses it to refer to female members of congress all the time. Some are proud of being called "congresswoman" to distinguish themselves from the men. It's really about going by whatever title that they prefer.

So I guess it depends on which female member of the House you were referring to when you used the term and whether they insisted on being referred to by the male title, like Blackburn, as to whether your use of the word could be interpreted as misogynistic. Like in today's environment the way Al Gore used it to refer to Marsha Blackburn would likely be called "misogynistic".

reply

The funny thing is, people like Al Gore have been and are paving the way for this lunacy.

reply

congressperson?

reply

Congresswomyn? Sounds the same though.

reply

You could use a non-gendered title like "Representative" or "moron".

"Representative" is more accurate anyway; Senators are also part of Congress, but no one calls them "Congressman".

reply

Maybe 'Congressmember', 'Senator' or 'Representative' ?

I've never heard of a female being offended by 'Congresswoman' and insisting on being called 'Congressman' before. That's baffling. But the rest of your description of her explains everything.

reply

Congressmember sounds like the culprit of a #metoo story.

reply

more fascist speech censorship from the "liberals" all in the name of pretending to be offended. aren't you supposed to say "personal point of priviledge" before having an opinion? surely thats a hate crime too..

reply

She's a trump conservative. Also fascism was an expression of conservatism.

reply

i was talking about doogiedaday, genius

reply

Doesn't make sense that way, you probably clicked reply to his post by accident.

reply

between 1 and 10, how retarded are you?

reply

Your numbers lack units so I don't know which end of the scale is best or worse.

reply

Nu speak 101. This person/place/thing probably masturbates to George Orwell's 1984.

reply

And what would be a T-rumptard comment without a reference to masturbation?

Geez, you guys are perverts.

reply

Wait a minute. Masturbation is a perversion?

reply

Only if you do it right.

reply

It sounds like a troll. A lot of trolls are running around posing as various factions.

reply

She's a relative actually, in her 70's, Trump supporter and fundamentalist Christian.

reply

Is she a drunk?

reply

Must be voting for T-rump.

reply

Assuming you're serious, nope, teetotaler.

reply

Dry drunk. Does she believe the earth is 6,000 years old? What about Eve coming from Adam’s rib? That right there is the most sexist patriarchal propaganda known to womankind, including congresswomen.

reply

I don't know her that well but probably she takes the Bible literally.

reply

That’s hilarious. She takes the most woman bashing piece of garbage known to womankind literally and calls you a misogynist for saying congresswoman. She’s the misogynist.

reply

This is ridiculous and it really pisses me off because women have countless battles with actual sexism and this woman’s pettiness gives fuel to those who wish to negate our struggles when we need all the support we can get.

reply

Don’t worry tomorrow the left will have a whole new set of standards. They have nothing valuable to offer the country or society, so they have to constantly change the meaning of words in a sad attempt to empower themselves.

Idiots are idiots. No mater which gender Male or female, or which color from the bowl skittles.
