I’m going to recommend this film to Criterion and see what happens! It is great and magical for such a shoestring budget!
I agree, an incredible film, truly Americana in its scope and epic scale. The cinematography is so good, and I prefer this look to the over-polished digital films of todya’s Hollywood.
The 3.5 hour version is mesmerizing, albeit very slowly paced, whoch I don’t mind. I would recommend that first-time viewers put subtitles on. There are at least 6 different languages used in this film (reflecting the melting pot that is America), and the accents are thick enough or soft murmured enough to make it difficult to follow the story if youdon’t already know it.
Hit me with your pet shark!
Now THaT is a good commercial!! :D
Tubi free streaming has this with English dub, no subtitles.
I watched it. For the plot, you know. :)
I want to know this, too! Willy Wonderland is enjoyable escapish fare. If Babana Splits is comparable, I might check it out!
Quite an amazing film! Parasite is good too but I think this is better and has a more emotional core. The director also directed Maborosi, one of my favorite films (about a young widow dealing with unexpected loss of her husband).
Two reason I won’t see this film, unless for free years in future on some streaming service:
1) the director. I hate his style. Moulin Rouge was an undisciplined, spilled-paint of a film. Dreadful. Australia was forgettable, too.
2) why see a film about Elvis when the real Elvis made over several dozen films that I can just watch to see the real man and his actual singing voice, too?
OP probably doesn’t like Bullitt or First Blood, either.
The Thing 1982
What’s Up, Doc?
If I had watched this as a young kid in the 1980’s, I might have been traumatized. So many heroes violently killed!
Kids today are desensitized to this sort of thing.
More likely, the director, being Asian, was influenced by Il Mare, a Korean film that was remade into The Lake House. il Mare is very good, and free to view on IMdB with ads if you’re interested.
Reva sucks, hard! My jaw dropped midway through the 1st episode. Poorly written , dreadfully acted, silly appearance (the other 3 inquisitors looked cool, so why did Reva look so generic?).
One of my favorite childhood films. I saw it on vhs and later bought the dvd. Good memories! In fact, I think I’ll watch it again this weekend.
What’s wrong with his appearance? In the comics, he looks like a tall, very emaciated version of the Cure’s lead singer. In the trailer, that’s what he looks like too.
Now, as for the quality of the show, I’m sure it will on par with most TV or streaming superhero show. Passable, but nothing memorable.
If David Lynch were directing it, though…. Ah how wondrous it could have been….
“Married”. It earned Mariette Hartley an emmy. I still remember her mostly for her commercials with James Garner. That was a sad episode, 1st of the second season.
Henry Thomas! I had to look it up.

Watch this and get back to us. ;)
Chronicles of Pyrdain or Earthsea. Both have seen tv or animated adaptations, but I’d love to see a well-written movie version
