The artistic and commercial success are astounding.
James Wan and his team delivered. BIG TIME.
The amount of salty fanboy tears from certain factions says it all.
This is true. It's annoying.
But Aquaman is more an old fashioned fantasy action adventure.
Does not really feel like super hero films.
Yes old trope. The hero gets his ass royally kicked by the main villain (not so in Tron) and is rescued by thr mentor or love interest. Only so he can beat the vilalin in the final fight. Old story.
I love Tron 1/2. But Aqua did it a lot better and effectively on a strorytelling level.
Nope. Tron looked awesome. Aquaman looked fantastic.
James"Cum-stained children make me EXTREMELY HAPPY"Gunn should be fired not hired. He can be hired to live in a prison cell for life.
Blood for oil? Pedophilia for raccoon turds? Disgusting!
^ Infinitely better with "Bore" maybe. I wondered if this was a TV mini-series they released as film. So sloppy.
If the real Aquaman would come around you'd shoot that CGI-ball sack of a chin right out off Thanos' face, and let Aqua hide his zucchini wherever he wants. You know it to be true.
Nope this is close to Star Wars in terms of imagination and world building (score is great too).
It's not as deep and dystopian a storytelling as StarWars, but I have nothing against a good roller coaster ride a la Raiders or Tron as long as it does not involve penis, turd and nipples dialogue.
LOL, there we go again with your trademark low effort thinking and straw men:
- A talking raccoon taking about putting somebody else's squishy TURDS into a pillow case is stupid and childish.
- A giant crab-squid talking about serious things within the context of a fable is acceptable. Ever seen Star Wars or Trek?
It's the difference between the Man Child Universe and solid fantasy films. It's called nuance.
Now cry me a salty fanboy river.
Aqua may seem exhausting and overplotted. But that impression vanishes after the first view.
I mean we had even more exhausting movies this year, like Infinity War - which was essentially several TV episodes loosly stringed together as one screeplay and the leads disappearing for half an hour. I thought my nose would start bleeding from Infinity Bore.
I absolutely loved it. That rooftop chase is the best action sequence since long (second only to the amazing deep-trench dive and the final battle)!
This Black Manta guy was a new Bobba Fett or Darth Maul.
Glad he comes back. Also great that a black actor is allowed to play a vengeful villain asshole for once.
Indeed.
Though the licensed pop music is one of my few complaints. Is this Guardians of the Raccoon Turd or Sucide Squad? It should not be!
The composed score is epic thogh. One of the best in the last years.
That only shows character.
I was very sceptical too. A plausibel underwater storyline has never been done sucessfully in life action before.
They did it by creating some of the greatest cinematograohy and world building in the last decades.
I am myself surprised at the enormous commercial success. They achieved the impossible.
It's close to a second WonderWoman - which was the most profitable CBM 2017 and the best reviewed CMB ever last year and won a lot of awards like CriticsChoice&Hugo (the Oscar went to SuicideSquad not WW).
DC can be hit and miss, but they are hardly mediocre.
"It's basically a mashup of The Little Mermaid, The Sword in the Stone, and Black Panther (minus any interesting technology or meaningful cultural references)."
Lol, not really.
If anything, this is a riff on the King Arthur myth (Arthur...Curry get it?), Man of Steel structure and ample Raiders & ClashofTitans elements.
Ocean pollution is not a meaningful cultural reference? Pearls cast before the seapigs!
the silliness is part of the Atlantean mythology. It's a freaking Aquaman movie about the most ridiculous fish man in the world, even more laughable than the Guardians of the Racoon Turds or Antman or others.
DC have done well in this regard. Aqua is KEWL now.
Give me 1 Billion!!!!!!
Lol, "I'll shoot that ball-sack of a chin right out of your face"!!! Infinity Bore is good enough if you're a MCU fanboy or a child as a big event film like Transformers. But as a movie screenplay it's a mess: its like 4 separate TV episodes stringed together. The leads of each episode disappear for 30 minutes etc, like a TV show were you break up the ensemble.
And then they play Phantome Menace as final battle, all with tribal warriors on grassland under an energy shield, with hand-shields and big CGI rides...outch time, where was Jar Jar…? Also, I do not remember memorable music or world building. But the raccoon did not talk of his turds at least...that's mature enough for MCU. Cheers.
PS: Variety calls InfWar one of the worst of 2018 (;

^^^ I could not have put it into better words.
Just one addition: Best IMAX 3D experience I had in a loooong time. James Wang delivered BIG.
Your are most welcome my lady. That MCU fanboy dost protest too much, methinks. I do enjoy them crying salty rivers. You should too. It's a thing of beauty.
lol, you sound so butt hurt, pal. DC made the most profitable CMB movie in 2017 (before Sony's Spiderboy, Fragglerock and last Guardians of the RacoonTurd2), didn't really need a comeback.
Btw Aqua already crossed 500M worldwide on a December leaving competition like MaryPoppins, Transformers, Spiderman and Eastwood far behind.
Say, are you THE infamous "ranmast" from Imdb? I heard the MCU nutjobs, like weirdraptor (the guy who write MyLittlePoy fanfiction) or formersam, talk about you. They claimed that they are harmless compared to you (they were all banned from forums for cybercrimes btw). You are allegedly THE epitome and role model of a basment-dwelling MCU manchild fanatic. LOL.
Pleased to meet you, pal. All hail the Man Child Universe.
Best 3D IMAX experience I had in a long time. I hate seafood, but this may have converted me. (;
It's as brainless and silly as MCU films. But it compensates for that on other levels.
Congrats to James Wan for creating the visually most impressive and imaginative action adventure since long. Pure fun.
Comeback, lol, missed some of the greatest DC films. But yes:
Best action movie of the year.
It's outstanding in terms of
- action pieces (the amazing deep-dive, roof hunt and final battle in particular),
- world building & lore (the 7 kingdoms are realized in very imaginative ways),
- art design & score
Best 3D IMAX experience I had in a long time.
