I think what the OP is saying is that do you think Prof X actions in THIS movie merit his being kicked out and named changed on the academy he founded? I agree with the OP that his kicking out is not just. If he resigned that would be OK, but it seemed like he was forced out. Not many performers can 'one-up' a Beatles song...Cocker did, hence the word brilliant. If you weren't moved by that soulful performance perhaps Sha Na Na is more your speed. If Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Beyonce would all come out publicly AGAINST Michael Jackson....I think that would do something. The $100's of millions that the Jackson family receives in royalties would evaporate. yea...it was not very noticeable in the movie...the housemaid only had one line. To add....The Soviets had a 'nuclear torpedo'....and the US was trying to up them with 'practice barrel bombs' (ones that would not damage the Soviet subs but would make the same sound). But how was the Soviet captain to know the difference? Having African-Americans as housekeepers and waiters. (The hotel scene). It bums people out, reminds them of slavery...they not depicted as such in most movies (or even commercials) today. Generally, most comedic style is generational...(except slapstick, which spans generations). Bill Murray's comedic style and timing really made this film, and he is a comic god for my generation. I have watched supposed comedic classics that were made before I was born (Seven Year Itch comes to mind) and I had the same reaction as you...Ok but why a classic? dudeā€¦...seven THOUSAND posts? how did you find the time to watch the movie? People prefer Cockers version by 5 to 1 from patients that chew gum. T Stark is essentially the embodiment of human ingenuity in design mechanics. However even HIS best effort was literally fatally flawed, killing its user. It was a 3 hour movie. But I see you are like me...maybe a half-hour less on the tear-jerker scenes and more focus on building stuff! I have had such training. Trust me, it lasts. Training is repeated over and over so it goes into 'muscle memory', so when your life if threatened, you don't even have to consciously think about it...you just do it. The gangster, seemed to disagree with his boss on the phone, arguing that attending to his wife's funeral was a solid excuse. This would cause a sense of empathy from the gangster, and despite being a tough guy, he is not a robot, but human. Empathy causes hesitation. Hesitation in combat is a bad thing. We don't know how the conflict went down...You seem to envision that the gangster got off the phone drew his gun and shot a 90 year old man in broad daylight like 'The Terminator'. More likely is that they tried to knock him unconscious to be carried to a nearby van or car. The old man played possum and quickly dispatched the two as they approached to pick him up. I also think it is highly likely that he did have a gun, he supported the VFW, most people would not give to 25K the VFW if they were not proud vets. Most military vets keep their guns throughout their lifetime. I envision him having an old Colt automatic in the small of his back, the gangsters cursory search missed it. Perhaps with the release of the DVD that scene will be added in, and a plausible combat scenario would be shown to your satisfaction. Dude...try to be happy for a persons accomplishment, not put it under a microscope. Nobody likes people like that, it does not reflect well on the person pointing it out. He did say he had seen combat (Korea). He also had enough marbles left to know that he would be probably be killed after choosing to attend the funeral, so he was probably packing (small of the back would be my guess). Then he just played the 'old feeble man' like he did in other parts of the movie so they would underestimate him and at the right moment pulled the gun. At 90 people don't see you as a threat. Killing two people quickly at close range is taught in the military. As you approach middle age your hearing is not as good as it used to be. Background noises cloud what is being said, accents make the problem worse. Disney obviously knew of the actors accent and were fine with it. It is a odd choice, how many movies does the lead actor have a accent? Maybe 5%? If that. It seems that Disney wanted to go with an 'international flavor' to the rebels. Movie making is a international business and wanted to include all races in it, good for ticket sales. However, if look closely all actors in the Empire are...white males. After they tested the Death Stars weapon, they cut to a scene inside the Death Star, no fewer than a dozen middle aged white men were congratulating each other, nobody from another race. It seems Disney only feels safe making white men the villain. I guess they don't want to be called racist online. Disney is a publicly traded company. Box office earnings are factor in gauging their stock price. If Disney intentionally MISINFORMED the public of its box office earnings, this would be a huge scandal in the business world. Trust would be eroded and Disney's stock would plummet. People responsible would not only be fired but probably face prison time. I watch CNBC regularly and your 'rumor post' is the first time that I have heard of this. If you have any clear evidence please let CNBC know because it would be HUGE news! Jesus pal no need for trolling personal attacks! Ryker huh...seems that even the Klingons in the Next-Generation spoke better English than Luna, in fact Worf sounds almost Shakespearean in comparison. In that show there are hardly ANY accents (besides pure alien) Listen, I am a huge fan of Star Trek and IDIC and diversity, but if you are given a plum multi-million dollar roll as a actor and you are speaking ENGLISH.....Put some work in with a English coach and get rid of you accent! Mel Gibson, Arnold S., Sean Connery could give Luna references. It used to be a matter of pride, but I think Disney had $$$ in mind..a poster opined earlier that it was a siren song to Hispanic/Spanish worldwide viewers and to increase Star Wars base. (But he died in the end soo...) It was not 'becoming more poweful'... the theme given to women was resiliency, I thought that was clear. Many women who have been through trauma blame themselves. The danger the movie edges on is that all (white)men are bad and/or not to be trusted. All white men depicted in this movie at some point were untrustworthy. Mr. Colson was cloned and almost killed Fury. Fury's boss was cloned and tried to do the same. *Spoiler Jude Law's character was ultimately deemed untrustworthy. Ms. Marvel also had trust issues with her father. Even the white security guard that the movie kind of goofed on by playing 'What a Man' ( one of only three overweight/unkempt men in the movie) gave her location away to authorities. Being feminist can be a double edged sword. It can easily blur into man-hater. 'other than men being sexist and misogynists and hating women very much, because this is what white men do'. See how easy it turns... Headstrong women are the 'it' thing in Hollywood these days . Watching the Oscars with the #metoo movement and the #oscarssowhite are having its effect. I agree that this movie has a pro-women message. Labeling it as 'Feminist' might be going too far. That being said, there are millions of women in the world who have been raped and/or battered by uncaring men. If this movie can help these women become stronger and overcome....Viewers should have no problem with that and not be hyper-critical. By the way, the Disney had to pay Jamie Lee Curtis to use her image. I imagine that Arnold would have wanted a least 1 million minimum.
