I believe that was unrelated. The kids lit the light to have their dad find them. At that point it wasn't about the other people in the area.
However, they knew they were sensitive to sound. Yet the engineer dad didn't experiment with that.
And as it seems, even a dog whistle would have worked just great for self defence.
The boy stepped on the hatch at the top and fell through. The girl jumped after him. And even in quicksand you can make swimming motions to "swim" in it. But maybe it was the panic…
The mattress thing is what annoyed me as well. You see the father putting the mattress back and next thing is the creature down below. How?
Thing is, the family in the movie was portrayed as intelligent. Yet they didn't exactly act up on that. I mean, the father already figured out the creatures are very sensitive to sound/noise. It doesn't need a rocket scientist to come up with the idea of experimenting with different frequencies… similar to how people rather quickly learned to defend against sharks by punching them onto their most sensitive part.
They only lit the lights at a specific time of day. Maybe even only on a specific day of the week. At least that's how I saw it.
I mean, the father already figured out that the creatures go by sound. Why didn't he try putting up speakers with different frequencies at least one of those 470-something days?
Put them in a container of reinforced steel. With how they were struggling with the truck's doors (which are only merely thicker than the silo walls), some steel box would make sure the "noise devices" could work for quite some time.
Also the creatures didn't look like they were good in climbing. So they could've put those things up into trees or on top of the silo.
Also they closed the doors with a healthy *thump* noise.
6) Also, how did Pinbacker survive in the observation deck on I2 when Capa set the sunlight to full blast?
8) The computer can override people trying to sabotage the mission (like when they tried to fix the sun shields), but the computer can't do anything when someone just removes it from the coolant?? Also: When Icarus was offline because they changed the course, when the shields were misaligned, there was an alarm blaring throughout the ship. Why isn't there an alarm when Icarus is taken out of the coolant?
Also: Capa has this Icarus-communicator-thingy around his neck when he finds out that there's another person on board. Couldn't he have used this to let Icarus deliver a message to the other crew members? Also, the obs deck is in the very front of the ship, even before the bomb. Why does Capa run to there instead of running in the opposite direction to his mates?
