That's well put. And I agree for the most part. But can you give any examples of films that have been shot digitally that look pretty bad in 4k? i.e. - you think would have looked better if they were made 20 or 30 years ago and reproduced? As Blade Runner was. I watched 'The House of Sand and Fog' last week made in 2003 - a 1080p copy, and it looked really poor. I'm no expert on filming techniques but I found myself thinking I wish it had been made a decade later. Perhaps that era was when the industry was in that crucial state of flux with regards technology. There's a place for both. That's why The Neon Demon and Blade Runner both look stunning in 4k. No. I am male. Born in 1978. And both the daughter and father characters completely resonated with me. Great to hear this. I was utterly moved too.......... The end scene and the scene by the fire. The connection between them was just so real. You know what, I've had a think and I think you're right. I shouldn't have said "Avoid at all costs". People should watch it for themselves and judge it. I should have said something along the lines of I wish I HAD AVOIDED IT. I'll take your word for it. I won't be watching Venom. No. I watch films because I want to watch them. Not because other people have told me they are bad or good. You're getting hung up on 1 persons opinion of a film. Which you disagree with. You're opinion is ; This film is worth watching, it's good. My opinion is: This film isn't worth watching, it's bad Yet apparently, only one of us is allowed to type those things on the internet. But that's the same as somebody saying: "You've got to see this film, man, it's amazing" You can't have it both ways. That's fine. People disagree. Especially about the arts. Robocop - similar themes of lead character dying at the beginning and being revived to fight evil Matrix - fight scenes with camera placement to try and add drama Blade Runner - Corporations running a dystopian society in the future involving technology. None of the themes were done well really. I can very readily accept my opinion isn't shared by the majority. But I'm confused as to how that has any relevance to my opinion in the first place. Most people I know love olives. Alot of them also like reality TV. I avoid these things at all costs, and I would advise others to as well......that makes me an idiot and a douche according to this website. It's a poor film. There we go again...... "Why would you tell people to avoid a film that the majority seemed to enjoy" You've made an assumption that I've taken a survey of people's thoughts on the film, or take any notice of the score next to the film's page on this website. If we all looked at the score of the film on this website, and then altered our view of the film we've just seen, depending on what "the majority" felt about it - then that would make us all "douches" for being sheep. There are too many fanboy manbabies on these types of website that just cannot take it when somebody dislikes a film they like. To then claim that a reviewer of the film should take in the thoughts of the "majority" and adapt his or feelings about the film accordingly is preposterous as it is hilarious. The film sucked. (In my opinion.) The mistake you've made there is thinking that I know that "most people liked this movie". How do I know what most people like? I'm just offering my opinion on a movie and this is one to avoid. Why on earth would I have to write "In my opinion..." before everything I post? Of course it's my opinion. That's how the internet works. I love how my 1 paragraph was a "rant" by the way. That made me laugh. Thanks for this post. Really well written. I watched the movie last night and have barely stopped thinking about it. Also added to the list, cheers. Thanks, I'll check them out. Can you recommend 1 or 2 more of his that are good? That's a great post on a great film ^ Brilliant way of putting it kMags. I saw this last night and I thought it was one of the most raw, brutally real depictions of addiction put to screen. It reminded me of the Safdie's 'Heaven knows What' and to a lesser extent 'Lilyah-4-eva'. Very powerful film-making.
