I know exactly what you mean... Now I eat nothing but boring food.
I saw this yesterday.. It was pretty good. Seemed a bit stretched, and it seemed a lot longer than 1hr 39 mins.
Also, Beatty should have just been an American ex-pat, the accent is lousy, and it's kinda ridiculous. Hard to take it seriously :)
Tell me about it! I did a favor (free) for a guy I was acquainted with in the local "art" community. He needed extras, and people dropped out, and I had a suit.. He said it would take about an hour (to film a 2 minute scene).. After 3 hours, I remember pizza came, and he said "This is just for the crew" -- (then who are we?)..
Ok, Newman sounded silly with a Mexican accent, but for millions who won't read subtitles....
Every other remake is awful..
Yes, it was light-hearted at times (especially when he talked to the audience), but it did have it's serious points.. That's one movie that started out rough, but ended with a 7/10 :)
I hesitate to watch the original.. The only remake I loved was "The Outrage" which was the English version of "Rashomon" which at least makes sense because of people's lack of interest to read a few lines on a screen, but most importantly, it was just as great! Martin Ritt is another underrated director, but since he was blacklisted, his movies didn't get any advertising money, but for the few who have seen his movies, most are great... "Hombre" is another really good one, but he has many.
Is "Alfie" the remake of the 1960s movie starring Michael Caine?
sugar mama :)
I agree with you... Luckily, I don't think I saw any colorized movies on TCM.
and sometimes mix it up!
I gave the movie a 6/10.
Anyone can take a family and screw them up by being vulgar, and the underground sheep seem to dig anything that's taboo, must be self-repression... The screenplay is very weak, too. I don't see what IS good about it.
Thanks for the warning -- I almost saw his first movie... Someone said this was a copy of a movie from 72.
I forgot about his parents (I read his bio years ago)..... And ah ah yeah.. thank you! "Buffalo Bill and the Indians" -- it was the Huston picture that I couldn't finish. Not sure why. I remember loving Newman throwing his weight around, "because I said so" frontier justice., lol
Speaking of Newman, Huston said his worst movie was "The Mackintosh Man" (and I agree, and they had James Mason, too!)
"Five and Dime" was a movie I couldn't get into.. Same with Quintet, Cookie's Fortune, and Judge Roy Bean - so I'll save those for last... I think I saw those first two just today on Youtube, but I'll get that last one too. What do you think of them?
I just remember nothing really happening in the first 30 minutes or so... Did you like them?
At least! After using it for quite a while, I finally registered a username in 2001, but I'm curious when they did start.
I can't remember a thing I liked about the movie..
I remember him saying that in this 3.5 hr interview which is so great I'll paste it below
