It's a stupid, ludicrous theory. It stems from the thoughts of people who spend too much time online and involved in video games, to the point that the online/virtual world becomes as real or more real to them than reality. It would never even occur to a person who had a more secure grounding in real, physical life.

Plato said what we see is their perception of reality. Not the same at all.

I suspect you haven't read Plato's Cave but have heard/read people misrepresent it.
