According to one review Jiu Jitsu is: "A low-budget sci-fi action movie where Nicolas Cage and a bunch of cinematic badasses use martial arts to fight aliens. This is exactly the movie promised, for good and ill."
^^^
Thats exactly what it is....Its basically a really cheap knock off of "Predator"
and Yes I too thought I could at least have fun with it...I truly am not hard to please....I cant tell you how many straight to video type action movies I love...
The problem here Is, The ONLY thing about this film that could be viewed as "fun"....which are the action scenes, are so poorly done and directed, you can not enjoy them....The director it seems tried to make scenes "special" and instead they are ALL TIME horrifically bad.
for example, Theres a sequence with Tony Ja and Alain, where The director decided to shot the action sequence Half From right behind The actor and Half from POV(like a video game) where you literally see nothing nothing but the actors arms and legs punch and kicking...and The director tries to to seamlessly go from POV to behind the actor without cutting and Its Literally The WORST attempt I've ever seen at trying to do something like this(A movie on netflix debuted this year called Extraction, It has a 17 minute action sequence that is masterfully done to look like 1 shot , where all the cuts are hidden and The camera moves from different POV's) I think Thats what the director here in JJ was going for but Its literally one of The WORST comically bad attempts I've ever seen.
every action scenes choreography is so staged and so awful you cant enjoy it, You can literally see the actors waiting for the next move...
The director does these awful 360 full camera rotations that do NOTHING for the scene except confuse the viewer.
Alain's acting is among the worst acting I've seen in a B type movie.
Nicolas Cage is nothing but a stand in...He's in 2 action sequences and In both action sequences, he's only used in close up shots, every major action move and everything physical is shot from far away and its PAINFULLY obvious that The actor doing the fighting is a stand in/stuntman and not actually cage(now this isnt abnormal, all B list movies do this with older actors like JCVD, Segal, Lundren as they simply cant do what they used to do and They dont want to risk injury to the lead actor).but the problem here again comes back to the director....while all movies do this, The director here does It TERRIBLY...Its so much more noticeable in this movie
I hope you do get some enjoyment out of the movie...honestly I dont remember ever telling someone "dont bother" or "This movie isnt worth watching"....I see other people say it all the time and I always watch that movie and at least find something I enjoyed that makes me not regret watching.
But with this movie, I truly cant find or think of a single thing I enjoyed, I cant think of 1 single reason to recommend watching it and for once I truly feel I should tell people NOT to watch it.....It just awful
