References to previous M:I films

So what reference(s) were you able to get a glimpse of? ... I'll start:

1. MI1: Overall sequence in the train (TGV): Mission, fighting in roof, business inside, use of masks.
2. MI1: Alanna and Max both doing business at the train and the transaction not being completed somehow.
3. MI1: Ethan's profile picture is similar (not same) when his file is being looked at by the CIA or whoever is chasing him.
4. MI1: Bridge killings (weapons, villains, etc)
5. MI1: Narrow alley in the fight scene in DR is similar to where Krieger killed agents in MI1.
6. MI1: Ethan's magic trick for disappearing objects at sight.
7. MI2: Use of motorcycles.
8. MI3: Extreme running sequence in roofs.
9. MI6: Car chase in Paris vs car chase in London in DR.
10. MI6: Party scene (Similar ambience, music and even similar participants).
11. MI6: Benji driving a boat during a mission to rescue Ethan.

Let me know of any others...

12. MI6: Angela Bassett’s picture in the conference room; Sloane’s still head of the CIA
13. MI1: Kittridge’s first meeting w/ Ethan used similar blocking and near-identical camera angles as MI1’s restaurant meeting
14. MI5: Ilsa used the same Heidi Moneymaker stunt on Gabriel that she used on Lane’s goons and on Bonesaw, only it didn’t work because Gabriel’s the anti-Ethan

reply

12. Didn't saw that one.
13. Spot-on.
14. Yes. Pretty much every character did their thing in this one.

reply

Would this count?

Some folks are crying "ret-con" for revealing Ethan's past life as a criminal, but it was clear from MI1 that Kittridge didn't trust him and was awfully quick to assume the worst. Luther actually WAS a criminal in MI1. And Benji's criminal past is at least consistent with MI5, where demonstrates his resistance to CIA interrogation and spends time playing Halo on the job

Oh and while I agree they all did their thing in each movie, Ilsa's "shoulder-mount" is very distinctive because there's only one stuntwoman, Heidi Moneymaker, associated with that move (may even have it trademarked or something) as both Isla and Black Widow, among many many others

reply

Yes. I didn't think about their criminal's past as a reference but I don't see any flaws in your logic.

I also agree that Ilsa's movement is quite unique.

Let's see if anyone else can join with more references...

MI4 - dust storm - similar to desert opening
MI5 - running through the alleyways of London - similar to running through Rome alleyways
MI6 - John Lark (the film felt like it took great delight referencing the previous biggest evvver MI)

reply

Nice ones. Did get the dust storm at sight, and the John Lark story. Didn't thought about the alleyways.
