why call it 'Part One'?

Surely thats risking some of the potential audience thinking 'well its just half a movie.. And I'm not bothered enough to invest in seeing two movies'

It'll probably pay off as its Tom Cruise/Mission Impossible but imo MI7 should've been just 'Dead Reckoning' and call MI8 something else. (even Dead Reckoning Part II but no Part I)

Avengers 3&4 was originally titled 'Avengers Infinity War Part 1' and 'Infinity War Part 2' before ditching them for Infinty War and Endgame so became like standalone movies (presumably so the audience goes into Infinity War expecting the culmination of the MCU, but then gets thrown by the shock end and then HAD to see the next one.. Had it been called 'Part I' the surprise mightve been affected ) ..

Justice League was also originally going to be Part I & II but then the whole thing got fcuked up anyway.. But had there been another it would've had to been called 'JL: something' (maybe JL Part II?)

Matrix 2/3 didn't do it either (no 'Reloaded Part I')

BTTF II (and Godfather II) was called 'Part II' but really that was just another way of saying 'BTTF II'

Dune wasn't advertised as Part I until after it came out, it was just marketed as "Dune" (unlike 'Dune: Part II')

Most people knew going in that the Thanos movies were broken into two parts. I would have expected Paramount to go that route (using different and non-numerical subtitles). M:I stopped numbering the movies after III, probably in part because it can date the franchise. The Bond films are obviously not numbered. Kill Bill was broken into two volumes.

To answer the question, maybe they were numbered because the franchise has such good will that they're already selling the public on seeing them both. The movies were filmed together in order to save money (the pandemic made that problematic).

GOTG Volume 1
Kill Bill Volume 1

What does volume mean in books? - Quora

Volume 1 is the first part of the book, volume 2 is the second part of the book, and so on. If the book has 3 volumes, it means you must read the first 2 volumes before you read the 3rd, or else you won't know what's going on, like trying to watch the last ten minutes of a TV show.

You might prefer stand alone movies, but there is a huge audience expecting the story to continue. Marvel fans fully expect a mid-credit scene and a post-credit scene and teasers for the next couple of movies.

To be fair this is not part one, this is part 7.

Maybe those involved want the audience to consider that the franchise is nearing its end. Like with Harry Potter DH Pt1.

I don't like when they label films like this part 1. Now I already know going in that Tom Cruises character will not die. My guess is they are calling this part 1 to cross over into the Fast and Furious universe so Dom and Ethan can team up and save the world

Just like Deathly Hallows. Why charge you to see one film when you can be charged to see two?

reply

Cause Tom Cruise cares about his fans and doesn't want to trick them like that horrible Vin Diesel and his latest Fast disaster.

If you followed all the news of Fast & Furious 10, you'd know it was Part 1. They didn't call it that, but those that follow news closely, especially news related to Fast & Furious, then you'd know it was Part 1. Actually, if you've been following news related to the movies since 8, you'd know that they confirmed 8, 9, 10, and 11 all at the same time. I've known about 11 since a week or two before 7 released in theaters.

The thing about Fast X is the fact they teased it being two parts for the longest only for Vin to turn around before the movie comes out and says that it’s now a trilogy. Plus they didn’t even film 10/11 back to back smh.
