The name "Wakanda" was stolen from a Ken Kesey novel.

In "Sometimes a Great Notion" the action takes place in the fictional town of Wakonda, Oregon.

Not likely since Black Panther and Wakanda predate Kesey's novel by ten years.

reply

Actually, they don't. From the information I can find, Kensey's novel was published in 1964 and Wakanda in the comics was first used in 1966. However, see my comments on the identical post in the Black Panther thread.

Info I got says it was published in 1976. Did I have bad info?

GREAT BOOK.

reply

Yes. I liked it just as much as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The movie with Paul Newman and Henry Fonda is good as well.

You're late to the party:

Wauconda, Illinois:
Wauconda was named for a Native American chief, according to the village website, “who is buried somewhere on the southern bank of Bangs Lake, back of the Town Hall.

You are in Wauconda, in the state of Illinois. The main postal code of Wauconda is 60084. For more detailed information click on the post code in the list.

To be clear, Wauconda is not the futuristic Vibranium-filled African utopia of “Black Panther.” It’s a town in Lake County with a landmark nature bog.

The above is from the town's own website.
