Solid Opening Weekend

I did not expect this film to pull in $90 million plus in its opening weekend, especially after Shang-Chi brought in "only" $75m, and Black Widow $80m. Both of those were much more widely advertised, and seemed to be more highly anticipated than this nearly under-the-radar Eternals film.

I guess the real question is how well it will do over time. I'm going to see it tomorrow (no spoilers please!) but I've seen it getting very mixed reviews, and it seems to be the worst-rated film of the entire MCU. I wonder how that will affect its overall performance.

but below Disney expectations , they expected 75m , but it did better os , but wom may be toxic , will have to wait to see next weeks drop

Do you mean above their expectations? If Disney expected $75 million but made $90 million, it did better than they hoped it would.

I must have looked at the international tally. Either way, it did far better than one would expect for an art house superhero film about superheroes that even the nerdiest of comic book geeks have never heard of, and with barely any star power.

It has the second highest opening at the worldwide box office for 2021;might had been bigger if it got a release in China. We'll see where that goes.

I saw it at a morning show on first Saturday in UK. For that early there was a fair sized audience. I enjoyed it and I think everyone else did to - there were chuckles and people stayed until the very end of the credits for the teaser.

I saw it this morning, at an 11:40 am showing, and the theater was pretty crowded, much more than I anticpated for a Monday morning showing. I liked it far, far better than I thought I would, and the audience seemed into it.

I saw it Thursday. My local AMC had 1 showing each for 2D Digital, 2D IMAX, and RealD 3D. 3D (my preference) was sold out so I saw it in IMAX. IMAX was very full and I don't know about the 2D Digital showing.

I'm going to see it again at the theater, in 3D next time. It probably looks really good if they did a decent conversion.
