Dani’s family was murdered

I think Dani’s family was not killed by a suicide incident, but was rather murdered by someone who staged it as a suicide. The sister’s body appears to have been beaten and forced into that position, and the pipe being taped to her face is bizarre since most people suffocating themselves wouldn’t tape it they were it was on her face. I think Pele was behind it as a way to kickstart all the events in the movie.

I always thought so too and still think that Pelle is behind it all. It was all premeditated.

I think her situation may have been what made Pelle latch on to their group. He saw Dani as a good candidate, she had no family left and was pretty dependent on her boyfriend. She was self-isolated.

reply

I disagree that Pele murdered the family. Largely because it would have been nearly impossible for someone outside the family to set up that particular murder, but mostly because the murder would not be likely to increase the likelihood that Dani would want to make a summer trip to Sweden.

If his goal was to get Dani to go, and he was willing to commit murder to achievethat goal, murdering Christian and becoming Dani's next boyfriend would have been easier. And more convenient, and more fun.

I feel like it would normally have the opposite affect. People don't want to go on a last minute vacation right after a tragedy like that.

reply

Good, they should've been for raising such a useless, needy human being.

reply

I don't think so.

reply

No, the sister really did kill the parents and then herself.

But Dani's situation was very much of interest to Pele and the cult. The situation made her mentally unstable and she had no close relatives. She also inherited her parent's money. This was perfect for the cult. They could position themselves to be her family and also exert pressure on her to get her family's money.
