That’s because Damon Lindelof is a good writer. Instead of trying to make the next Lost he made The Leftovers and by the time that finished it had arguably established itself as the next Lost whilst also being very unique in it’s own right.
So many shows so desperately want to be the next Lost in that they take a mystery story but then they don’t make the drama around that mystery compelling and well written. Shows like Flash Forward, The Event, Alcatraz, Manifest and many others have all failed in trying to recapture what made Lindelof’s shows must-watch TV.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of the ending of Lost there’s no denying the majority of that show is fantastically well written in terms of character, drama and mystery.
