C'mon - Seriously?!
I love Nicole, but in the opening scene she had a tooth brush stuck in her mouth for 2 solid minutes.
Then Hugh Grant had his own tooth brush scene.
I can't take it. I HATE watching people brush their teeth. Why do all these fucking directors/script writers have this NEED to put that in. Do they think we, as the viewer think - 'oh ya, that's a mundane normal task and real. I have lost myself in it.'
FUCK NOW - It grosses me out to the max!!!
I seriously turned to my Wife and said - THAT'S IT. I'm DONE WITH THIS SHOW.
She said 'meh-fine'.
20 mins in.

and its always manual toothbrushes never the power-operated ones. You would think for a married couple living in an expensive town-home in upper Manhattan that at least they could afford a Sonicare DiamondClean.

My point is that it is unsettling for me to watch/hear. Even in my house. my Wife and Daughters know not to talk to me when they are brushing their teeth.
And I think it's tasteless to put it into film. No-one did this until around the 90s to try and fake realism.
Never saw Humphrey Bogart or John Wayne brushing.

Well, at the very least you should realize that this is your problem, and not a problem with the show. Tasteless? I assure you no one other than you would even pay any attention - this is your personal hang-up.

I don't think he's denying that it is. Sounds more to me like someone with a personal hang-up just wanted to vent about having to see so much of it in the show here, which...I don't know, is kind of interesting.
Like someone with an aversion to feet griping about a Tarantino movie...its not the movie itself...in fact, its that the continual shots of feet kept them from enjoying what was otherwise probably a great movie. Hence the frustration.
No real need to jump in with "That's YOUR problem, not the movie's pal!" Yeah...I think they get that.

I don't think it's OCD to think it's gross/rude for someone to be talking while they are frothing at the mouth while brushing their teeth.

Yeah I wouldn't classify it as OCD either, but its definitely a bit of a fixation, right? Don't get me wrong, its pretty intriguing to hear the perspective of someone who has a hang-up like you do, and how noticeable stuff is that most wouldn't even blink at.
I never really thought about it before, but yeah...toothbrushing scenes are pretty ubiquitous, you must have to fast forward somewhat regularly. Did your parents have the same rule with you as a kid? About not talking while brushing your teeth?

I hate movie tooth brushing--about ten seconds of waterless brushing, then spit it out but still no water, and no sign of messy toothpaste foam.

Yeah, I always wonder about that - it takes me like at least 30 seconds just to rinse. I guess that wouldn't make for interesting movie watching though, so they include this unrealistically truncated version of toothbrushing. 😄
