The Woman King gave me an idea for a movie about the American Civil War

This movie will completely reimagine U.S. history and the Confederacy. The U.S. Civil War will start in 1832. The South will create the Confederacy because of federal tariffs and not because of anything having to do with slavery. On top of that, the Confederacy's very first action will be to completely get rid of slavery. The Confederacy will achieve glorious victory in the Civil War and become a permanent new country that doesn't have any racial problems.

Cool Señor Spielbergo, let us know how you go with that 🙄

reply

I didn't mean that I would actually make the movie myself. I was simply proposing it as an idea for someone in Hollywood to follow.

reply

Oh no.. you really must! Why give such a stunning and not-at-all-sarcastic idea over for free? You could make tens of tens of dollars for yourself!

reply

I don't have any experience making films. I want the real professionals to turn this idea into a reality. Only Hollywood can do true justice by this idea and make it into the quality film it deserves to be. They did it for The Woman King the way only they could. They could do it again for my idea.

reply

Your idea is ridiculous, and I think you know it. I'm assuming you're doing satire because nothing you said made any damn sense.

reply

The ridiculousness of the idea is no reason it shouldn't be made into a movie. If Hollywood puts the proper time and effort into it I'm sure the result would be a glorious and inspiring film.

reply

It's an alternate history story. That's quite the rage these days.

reply

Don't forget to put black people in charge and the white people were the slaves.

reply

Bingo!!!! The "reimagined" history. Like the description of this movie USED TO say, which has now been conveniently deleted.

You should read some of Harry Turtledove's books. The guy was a master at alternate timeline-style history. Some time ago, he wrote "March of the Peachtree," a fascinating take on the Civil War, but if magic and dragons existed, and we had medieval-style kings instead of presidents. Another one was "A World of Difference," where instead of Mars, we had the planet Minerva, which looked like Mars, but it had an earth-like atmosphere, and there were intelligent aliens living there. A particularly eye-opening novel he also wrote, was an alternative history story about World War II, where in the middle of the Allies and Axis powers fighting each other, aliens invaded and the humans were all forced to put aside their differences and join up to fight the aliens instead. They only won because the aliens didn't realize that human tech at the time was analog and not digital, giving the humans an advantage over the aliens and their digital hardware (we're talking an EMP blast).

I agree. Harry Turtledove is a master of this sub-genre. I haven't read all of his books (there are a lot of them), but I've enjoyed everyone I have read.

Here's the plot:

Blacks are slaves of the Confederacy. Frederick Douglass escapes single-handedly to the North, killing hundreds of Confederates with the manacle chains around his wrists. Once there, he petitions Abraham Lincoln to start the Civil War to free the slaves, but Lincoln will not raise arms against fellow whites.

Douglass arms a handpicked squad of male, female and non-binary escaped slaves and all alone, they wreak havoc on the Confederacy, driving their armies to their knees.

Just as Robert E. Lee is about to surrender to Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, shamed by the success of Douglass's small band, leads his armies into the Confederate Capital and steals the glory of victory from Douglass and his fellow blacks.

This White Patriarchal version becomes the accepted one, but the brave, noble black freedom fighters remember the truth.

Watch. It'll happen eventually. Hell, there might already be something similar already made that's floating around out there somewhere.

Take a look at this; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C.S.A.:_The_Confederate_States_of_America

C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America is presented as if it were a British documentary being broadcast on a Confederate television network in San Francisco, California, including fictional advertisements between segments. It opens with a fictional disclaimer that suggests that censorship came close to preventing the broadcast, that its point of view might not coincide with that of the TV network, and that it might not be suitable for viewing by children and "servants". It purports to disagree with an orthodox Confederate interpretation of American history.
