And one of the reviews on RT:

"With its epic tale of the solidarity that grows between the Dahomey as they battle against enslavement and exploitation, The Woman King illustrates, with stunning grace, how sisterhood can be more than dangerous and powerful."

Buahahahaha.

reply

lol fiction can be fun

reply

Does the movie address this historic reality accurately, or try to spin it to fit current woke ideology, or deny it, or just ignore it?

reply

If this review from RT is accurate, and I think it is, you can imagine ...

"With its epic tale of the solidarity that grows between the Dahomey as they battle against enslavement and exploitation, The Woman King illustrates, with stunning grace, how sisterhood can be more than dangerous and powerful."

"The story has the Agojie, under the auspices of the young King Ghezo (John Boyega of the last round of “Star Wars” movies), fighting off the onslaughts of rival tribes and Portuguese slavers"

LOL.

Vs the reality:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahomey_Amazons

"The Dahomey kingdom was often at war with its neighbors, and captives were needed for the slave trade. The Dahomey women soldiers fought in slave raids, as referenced in the Zora Neale Hurston non-fiction work Barracoon"

reply

Accurate or not, it does show how the Dahomey captured and sold African slaves. In other words, it appears as though the film does not ignore or deny certain historic realities concerning the African slave trade.

I'm sure there will be a ton of spin though

Being part of the Agojie promises freedom to all involved, but not to those they conquer. The defeated are offered as tribute to the draconian Oyo Empire, who then deal their fellow Africans as slaves to Europeans in exchange for guns.

THIS POST IS STUPID AND THE THOUGHT BEHIND IT IS GROSS.

reply

I didn't know you were black, I thought you were a confederate soldier!

And I thought you were a massive cock stain on your mothers drawers.

So much for other claims that this film will not address African involvement in the slave trade.

reply

These were not part of the slave trade they were instigators and fought to keep it going after Britain abolished the Slave Trade. They even went so far as to go to war with the French over it.

Theis tribe also raided neibouring tribes to capture and enslave to be sold and also for sacrifices.

They are not saints or heros and certainly not superheros as Viola Davis claims

reply

Instigators are also part of the slave trade. Did you read the part where I said this was a review of the film and I have not seen it yet myself?

I think you really need to watch this film prior to becoming so emotionally involved. Don't let Davis tell you how to think about the film. Watch it and make up your own mind.

reply

I read the review. It still glorifies them as the heroes and oppressed which they were not.

They were slave traders hundreds of years before the white man even arrived.

A quote from the review

It’s a circle of oppression that the guilt-ridden Nanisca wants the King to break

Completely made up, never happened. They literally went to war to be allowed to carry on capturing and selling slaves.

Why would I need to watch a film when I can read the actual history.
