most 'Indiana Jones' of the series?

the scenes in the mine with Dr Grant holding the flaming torch basically playing Dr Jones (with Ellie as Willie Scott and the girl/female short round) and Grant trying to grab his hat pretty much felt like watching an Indiana Jones film ..

Obviously JP1 and 3 also felt Indy in parts due to Grant (who Spielberg approached Harrison Ford to play, which was obviously a pretty ludicrous idea)

This series is probably the closest that Chris Pratt will ever get to playing Indiana Jones.

Lets hope so

I wouldn't mind but doubt it happening now. He's too old now for what they usually want to cast for a reboot.

There were many elements in the movie that felt Indiana Jones-ish to me. SPOILERS:
The chases in Malta
The mines
The propeller plane
The scene with the women in the power room and the bugs

Also the pace of the movie was very similar. Going from one bad situation to the next worse one.

Its kind of weird Jurassic can still pull in 1b despite the (supposed final) movie being pretty lame.. yet a half decent (final) Indiana Jones which should be able to do the same (based on the previous films box office) bombs out not even breaking 400m

Of course Indiana Jones didn't have dinosaurs, but then maybe that was the problem.. If Indy 5 had a 'big' well known McGuffin like Atlantis or some big Jesus artefact again (or even dinosaurs) then maybe it would've done big box office. Crystal Skull while obviously not great was intriguing a McGuffin (aliens?) and obviously it was the 1st Indy for 20y since Last Crusade and Ford not too old yet still a leading man (with Indy 5, its almost like the character/actor had aged out and the film needed a big well known McGuffin to help it along).. But the Dial of Destiny? (Archimediwho? some mathematician from ancient Greece?? his dial? even hard core fans/historians be almost scratching their heads over that, let alone casual movie goers).. it just didn't seem to excite audiences.. and the rumoured time travel was abit WTF? for Indiana Jones (maybe even more so than aliens)

Thanks for the demonstration that not only Europe has educational problems... 🙄

I have my suspicions that the original MacGuffin for 'Indiana Jones 5' was the Spear of Destiny which even appears in the movie but for a throwaway gag.
Since there's concept art from earlier drafts suggesting a plot set in Argentina, my guess is the Nazis escaped there with the spear after WW2 and Indiana Jones was to retrieve it.

I thought about that . Its possible. also ties in with odd Indy movies do Christian artefacts

reply

Yeah, plus they could had made it like a 'The Boys from Brazil' meets 'The Odessa File' type of story.

, I thought the Nazi element would figure more than it did in the 60s, like an underground network with maybe a Nazi base on the moon lol (I'm sure I read rumours of that) , but it was really just Voller

Honestly yeah, even though I liked it fine, that’s one of the odd things about DoD. The stakes were so much lower than the other movies.
If Mikkelsen had belonged to a secret society or had some kind of private army lurking in the shadows, that might lent some more urgency.
There was plenty of real-life postwar fascist groups that they could had drawn inspiration from.
