Looks like this is finally coming out. I remember reports that this sequel was supposed to have been release years ago. What exactly happened?

The original will be 7 years from this follow up and it’s apparently going to theaters. I’m hopeful this will do well box office wise but I don’t really see it. The original caught a lot of people by surprise and made a decent amount of money. 7 years later is a big difference.

Gerard Butler’s star has slightly fallen and are fans of the original going to rush to theaters for this. Have people forgot about the original?

It’s still months away but I could see them shelving this and sending it straight to streaming instead of theaters.

It has a limited release and opens in January; Jan is a waste bucket for films that are deemed to not make any money. Production budget is deemed to be $15M – half that of part 1.
This looks to be a streaming feature.

The first one did turn a profit. But it was six years ago. Not sure if people even remember it.

Not necessary true. It's opening on the same weekend the first did 6 years ago. While the first may not have been well received by critics, it was well received by audiences and did well at the box office.

DEN OF THIEVES is essentially a remake of HEAT with Pacino & Deniro and if you watch both, you can tell the similarities. Bick Nick is Pacino and Pablo Schrieber is Deniro. Both movies have a major shootout on the freeway and both end the same way as well

The first one wasn’t a critical success, and it did ok at box office. They probably had to work hard to get a sequel green-lighted. This one is getting just a limited theatrical release
