Does Clint have some connection with Michigan? I liked Gran Torino especially as it was set in Detroit (plus it included another culture in a positive way). Now I read that in this movie he's "muling" drugs through Michigan. I wonder what he likes about my home state?

Huh? I didn't see a single Michigan reference in this entire movie. He was living in (and driving to and fro) Peoria, Illinois the entire film. Which is odd because he wasn't from Peoria IRL. What's up with that?
