SERIOUSLY With this Title?
Ridiculous title!
shareIt proves how 'woke' they all are.
shareIn that case, they can "get woke, and go broke" while I laugh my ass off at them.
shareBirds of Prey has been around since the 90’s. It’s not a recent idea.
shareThe topic is the obnoxious long title. Why can't you SJWs ever stay on topic?
shareHow am I an SJW? I just told you about comicbook lore. This is a group that has been around for years. That is a statement of fact.
As for the subtitle, chances are, it's about Harley leaving Joker behind which, once again, goes back a long time.
As for the subtitle, chances are, it's about Harley leaving Joker behindYes, I'm pretty sure that's what the title is referring to, but there was a time when a film's content spoke for itself, rather than lazily using its title to do so. share
Fair enough. I mean, this is a spin-off of Suicide Squad so it will probably be shit.
shareTriggered much? I don't think it has anything to do with wokeness or PC, or any other buzz words. It's just meant to capture Quinn's personality (although they might have overdone it).
share'Triggered'?
How am I 'triggered'?
I just know what's popular at the moment, and how these Hollywood types think.
I'm not personally offended or particularly bothered by the title. Just bemused. Hollywood's silliness is funny.
Triggered because the title has nothing to do with being woke and yet your mind went there. Like I said, it's just trying to capture Harley's personality (not saying I'm a fan of it).
shareIt's not 'triggered' to speak the truth.
shareLol but it's not the truth, that's my point. Why do you think the title is an attempt to be "woke?"
share'Emancipation' is a very woke buzz-term. It's directly bringing attention to the idea that Harley has freed herself from the Joker's toxic masculinity.
Personally, I like this theme, assuming that's where the film is going. I've always preferred to see what kind of person Harley could be without being under the Joker's shadow. What I dislike however is the filmmakers' need to bring attention to their 'wokeness'. It's cloying and smug.
Lol sorry that emancipation or freedom from an abusive relationship (in the comics and in deleted scenes) bothers you. Didn’t know leaving abuse behind is something that only woke people do. I thought that was something most people could agree on.
shareMargot Robbie just had to let everyone know she was the star. Probably a compromise since the studio preferred to do this over a Harley Quinn solo movie. Don't know who's idiotic idea it was to use the "word" fantabulous
shareWe now return to the 1971 film, "Good-Time Slim, Uncle Doobie, and the Great 'Frisco Freak-Out", starring Troy McClure.
shareHow about "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies"?
Or we can just read the novel "The Fortunes & Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders &c. Who was Born in Newgate, and during a Life of continu'd Variety for Threescore Years, besides her Childhood, was Twelve Year a Whore, five times a Wife (whereof once to her own Brother), Twelve Year a Thief, Eight Year a Transported Felon in Virginia, at last grew Rich, liv'd Honest, and dies a Penitent. Written from her own Memorandums."
It's hilarious. I like the the throwback quality of it.
shareActual TV episode: Cartman Gets an Anal Probe
shareIt's almost like "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."
shareThey're obviously trying to capitalise on the goofy, "zany" personality of Harley Quinn by putting the title in some kind of "Harleyspeak" to make it cute and wacky. It's a little screwy, but...whatever. People will probably just call it Birds of Prey.
shareIt doesn't work.
That could work if the title was a ironic joke in itself, and that would fit Harley Quinn's sense of humor. If would be some kind of meta-reference, with the main character breaking the fourth wall and joking about herself in the very title of the movie.
The problem is that the title is neither ironic or a joke. They're presenting Harley Quinn as a fabulous emancipated feminist role-model. No hidden irony, it's 100% serious. The joke, if any, is that they're presenting a character that is literally insane as a role-model, but I'm afraid that enters the field of involuntary comedy.
I didn't say it was a good joke. I do think it's supposed to be "from" Harley Quinn, but I think that's a promise of jokes they won't really follow through on (ie, it implies a meta movie about a meta character ala Deadpool, but they aren't going to actually have Robbie break the fourth wall). It looks a lot like Suicide Squad to me: they're trying too hard without a really good script.
