I am horrified this will be bad. This isn’t just some generic IP like a marvel or DC people can regurgitate, it’s extremely important and depthful to a lot of people.

The Hobbit != LOTR. Who cares about that small-time shit. And LOTR is important because it's the greatest fantasy ever written bar none, our civilization's modern mythology with deep British and Norse roots.
I can't stand to see it get bastardized but I think it's unavoidable. It really blows.

We've already had an actor going on about there not only being hobbits in Middle-earth during the Second Age, but them including "black, asian and brown, even Maori types"; the people in charge of it clearly have either no knowledge or no respect for Tolkien's work.

shareThat's the whole point, the greedy TV producers thought they'd gotten their money's worth out of high fantasy with Game of Thrones, but then they saw the Holy Grail of high fantasy, Lord of the Rings, and since they lost their revenue stream with GoT, they thought they'd replace it with LOTR, but without many things they don't like about it but are planning to have GoT-style sex, gore and bad language because the plebs love that kind of crap, and so does GRRM, apparently.
