Why can't anyone film a good Joe Hill adaption?

'The Black Phone' was, I thought, quite tepid. The adaptations of 'Horns', 'Locke & Key' and 'NOS4A2' were also really weak, in my opinion, with flaws ranging from cheap production values to bad ideas inserted over good ones.

As a fan of his work (I think that 'Locke & Key' and 'NOS4A2', in particular, are fantastic), I'm baffled by the inability of filmmakers to do justice to Hill's writing.

Like father, like son. The last good Stephen King adaption was The Green Mile.

There have been a ton of dreadful Stephen King movies since 'The Green Mile', but I thought 'The Mist', 'Gerald's Game', '1922', and 'Doctor Sleep' were all pretty great.

If I was up to me, I'd have Frank Darabont, Rob Reiner, Mike Flanagan and Zak Hilditch handle all of King's films, since they are the only directors who seem to be able to adapt his writing.

This isn't true at all. Hell, there's been more good than bad King adaptations lately.

I thought "The Mist" and "It" were really good adaptations as well.

I don't disagree that we see more bad than good, but The Mist, Doctor Sleep, IT and 1922 are all very solid adaptations.

84% with 64 reviews on RT. 7.4 on IMDb. I wouldn't say that's tepid.

reply

Do you not know what tepid means?

reply

65% on metacritic. that's a pretty solid number for a mainstream horror movie. not effusive praise, but tepid's not the right word.

I wonder if they could do " loaded" justice. That one will stick with me forever. Joe hills got his dads magic

The artwork of Locke & Key turned me off, so i didn't finish it. I thought the show was terrible.

I made it a few episodes into Season 2 before deciding not to continue - I couldn't get past the changes to the characters and story, plus the lack of budget for the special effects.
