I think this was debunked by at least one person who actually witnessed Bruce Lee on a set for Green Hornet:

Now this sounds much more like these two gents. Gene was a kick in the pants, and Bruce was more interested in completing his martial arts philosophies than displaying arrogance.
shareThe key is "...after LaBell went through with a surprise move." Lee's martial arts depends on both participants being on the same page about what kind of set, traditional moves will be done. It's fine for a formal competition or a fake movie fight, but a good street fighter comes along, goes outside any agreed-upon choreography, and Lee is finished.
