Oh no...Roland Emmerich directing

Please tell me he didn’t write the screenplay.

reply

No and even better, neither did Dean Devlin.

reply

Looks like their penchant for casting dweebs continues. Either that or one of these fruitcakes misses seeing Nick Jonas in a pilot’s uniform in “Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle”.

reply

Could be worse. Could be Joe Jonas.

reply

Jonas was great in this. And he was a tail gunner, not a pilot.

reply

Well, I'm glad that SOMEBODY is doing this movie! After the original was done on a lower budget with almost no visual effects, just vintage combat footage, it is good that somebody is doing this. So, I wouldn't get too critical.

reply

“Somebody”...who took a big dump with “Independence Day: Resurgence”?

reply

Well, no one else was going to do it. So, I don't care about Emmerich's misfires.

reply

And his best film to date happens to be a war film. I'll withhold judgement. If it's as bad as Air Strike or Red Tails, it is what it is.

reply

the original was awesome

reply

Emmerich has been hit and miss, and admittedly all his best movies were earlier in his career, but he's definitely made some good films.

Independence Day and The Patriot were both excellent. Stargate and The Day After Tomorrow were fairly good as well. And while a lot of people talked shit about it, I thought White House Down was a fun movie.

Yes, Independence Day: Resurgence sucked terribly, but I haven't lost faith in him just yet. Hopefully Midway will be great.

reply

I hope so too.

But I’m getting really sick of some fuqwit casting Woody frickin’ Harrelson in everything from Hunger Games to Star Wars.

Is some ignorant GEEK fan of his in CENTRAL CASTING under the impression he’s a box office draw?

reply

I kinda agree about Woody. I don't dislike him, but he does seem like he wouldn't be the best choice for a lot of roles that he gets.

To be fair to him though, he was great in True Detective and he also did a really good job in Netflix's recent Bonnie & Clyde movie The Highwaymen.

reply

He’s ROY f*cking MUNSON, for f*ck’s sake!!!

reply

None of the movies you mentioned were any good. And Independence Day was the worst out of the bunch. The only enjoyable one was Stargate and that’s because Russell saved the movie

reply

Well I just fucking disagree with you.

reply

You must’ve been born post 1980. You just don’t get real story telling, you need an explosion every five minutes to be entertained

reply

I can appreciate a wide variety of films and storytelling approaches. If anyone seems to be locked into thinking that there is only one proper and respectable approach to making movies, isn't it you?

reply

Nah, I just know that anything Emmerich ever created is cheesy crap

reply

I was born in 1954 and I also Fucking disagree with your assessment of those movies!

reply

With the exception of The Patriot...

reply

Then you’re RETARDED

reply

Ha ha ha HA HAAA Ha ha!

With 3 Masters degrees, I do not see how!

reply

Anyone who brags about 3 Masters is lying. Yep

reply

But EVERYONE who criticizes anyone of their education... is ENVIUOUS, jealous, and RESENTFUL!

reply

"who criticizes anyone of their education... is enviuous...

Lol! You do not have even one degree, let alone three.

reply

...and you are a troll.

reply

Well no, as a matter of fact, I'm not a troll. But I know a phoney when I see one.

reply

Oh but then you are stupid! You have not seen me yet you have only read my messages.

reply

Umm, buddy, I can see what you write...

reply

IGNORANT AND EMBARRASSING.

reply

Emmerich directing puts me off wanting to see this. Is it going to be full of stereotypes, cheese, cliches and be overly patriotic towards the Americans? Think I'll leave it.

reply

Emmerich makes a point of saying in his director's commentary that most of the seemingly unbelievable stuff in the movie really happened. And Emmerich, like Clint Eastwood in LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA depicts the Japanese as human without glamorizing their cause or politically correcting them out of some of their less appealing behaior.

reply

I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was well directed and had a decent script and good acting. Of course the action was over the top, and the explosions were crazy, but if a carrier has torpedoes and bombs lying around all over the deck, the explosion is going to be ginormous.

reply

Fortunately, he didn't. And unlike, say, the 1998 GODZILLA, he cared about the project.
