the movie would have been a lot better if they didn't change the ending/ 3rd act.
the original third act was originally going to take place in space. but they change it with the X-Men are kidnapped and taken aboard a military train.
the finale battle was supposed to take place in space not on a train.
a space battle sounds cooler then a train battle.
Kinberg wanted this entry to be 'grounded' (albeit with a space scene at the start and aliens trying to take the earth therefore making this entry the most outlandish XMen yet)..also Endgame/Cap Marvel had done all the space stuff so I guess so I guess a train ending seemed more grounded
Also I think the aliens were originally Skulls but got changed in the editing/reshoots (to avoid similarities with Cap Marvel..obviously the Skulls were characters that were available to both Marvel and Fox like Quicksilver)..
These directors need to stick to the source material. There's a reason some of these comic stories have reached epic status and are still being adapted and read 40 years later.

shareAnd even then, there are some iconic part of the Batman mythos that works better when some fantasy is involved. The Batman Begins version of Ra's Al Ghul was kind of boring imo. A far more interesting character is the immortal terrorist who has been plaguing mankind for centuries because he has what is essentially the Fountain of Youth.
shareSpace battle sounds terrible. Just 2 overpowered beings blasting each other in the nothingness of space. If you mean x-men in a space ship, we had that in the beginning of the movie.

I’m content with the train battle. I found it thrilling, genuinely badass, and well-executed for the most part. I would say this sequence was a real pleasant surprise to me (and certainly a highlight of the film along with the NY fight). Now don’t get me wrong, seeing an epic space battle is something I would have enjoyed and maybe preferred. However, given that the film as a whole didn’t feel as large scale as it should have, I felt the “down to earth” train battle was rather impactful.
Anyways, to call this film underwhelming obviously wouldn’t be unfair. Like The Last Stand, it failed the classic Dark Phoenix saga. Despite its shortcomings though, I find it puzzling that it’s the worst received entry in the series. No, this was by no means the most satisfying conclusion to the series... it’s a movie with some flaws for sure... but I still wouldn’t consider it an absolute train wreck (no pun) like some are calling it. Moreover, I didn’t find it to be any worse than the likes of The Last Stand and especially Origins. While I do wish it were better, I appreciated for what it was. It worked for me all things considered.
I really liked it. The antipathy for it doesn’t make sense unless you just hate the X-Men movies in general.
shareI liked it better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine and Apocalypse. It's on Last Stand par for me (which I thought was okay, I didn't hate it like a lot of people did). Only two issues with this one is it feels like nothing happens in the first half and the aliens are not explained at all. Possibly the least developed bad guys ever.

I didn’t have a big issue with them the first time I saw Dark Phoenix (I definitely understood why Jessica Chastain’s performance received criticism, although clearly the writing was to blame more than anything else), but now that I’ve seen the film a few times, I have to say that the aliens were indeed as uninteresting and underdeveloped as it gets. Though they killed it in the action scenes, these baddies were very one-note and forgettable overall.
shareRight? They literally show up and body snatch. Then they meet Jean and all they say is how they are chasing the Phoenix Force across the universe. Then later on Chastains' character says she will kill all life on earth (no reason given or anything I don't believe). And that is it lol (oh and it never explains what powers they have, seemed like they could do whatever was needed at the time).
I did quite enjoy the train scene as well. When all their shackles are unlocked was a pretty epic moment.
