How did the Terminator sequels end up being so unbelievably bad?

I'm so disappointed that the Terminator franchise became such a ridiculous, aimed-at-kids-and-foreign-markets joke of empty CGI bullshit. Its world is so rich with potential great stories. Even The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show achieved some good story-telling, atmosphere and suspense by focusing on story and character with a relatively low budget. But these movies are just so shit.

Terminator Dark Fate in particular is embarrassing to watch. (Mild spoilers follow in this paragraph). The fan-service is lame. The direction is all over the place. I have no idea what the point of the story is. Dani has absolutely no charisma at all, so I can't root for the 'future of mankind'. Sarah Connor looks like a talking leather shoe with frayed laces and sunglasses. The future war scenes (and most of the film) had all the subtlety and cinematic oomph of cut-scenes from a PS2 game. The bad-guy isn't scary or credible, just another blurb of tentacle pixels like "Life" and "The Thing" remake and the shitty Genisys sequel and countless other shitty CGI movies. T800 getting married and having a drapery business... I can't even believe I'm writing this. Sending Sarah Connor GPS co-ordinates via text for any Terminators landing... but never going himself to help - what? "For John..." What? That's some insane script contrivance just to get Sarah back in this lame unrelated story. It wasn't engaging, funny, scary, believable, I'm just not sure what it was or what it even thought it was.

If this new Skynet (now called Legion) was so easily able to develop time-travel, which the resistance can again just gatecrash, why the hell don't they just send loads of Terminators back to fucking kill loads of people and build more of themselves, send whole factories back to wipe out the human race from biblical times, I mean that's their goal isn't it? To just erase humanity? They have the intelligence to create liquid metal skins and whatnot but not figure out how to just use these ridiculously lethal things to actually wipe out humanity?

While I agree None of the sequels got close to T2 in quality....

I must say for me some of the sequels are pretty good and movies I can watch and enjoy.

my rankings-

1. Terminator 2-10/10
2. Terminator 3 8/10
3. Terminator Dark Fate 7.5/10
4. Terminator Salvation-7.5/10
5. The Terminator-9/10
6 Terminator Genisis 5/10

***Worth Noting that even Though Terminator 1 is ranked at #5,I still considered it the 2nd best overall movie in the series, just not one my favorites

for me both Terminator 3 and Salvation are Badly over hated....Both films have problems and I do see why fans could be upset at certain parts, but overall I feel they are entertaining movies that are actually pretty good entries into the franchise.

as for Dark Fate, for me, I enjoy it purely for being an action movie...but I can see why this film would infuriate fans...for me it doesnt make me angry, But I completely understand why it flopped and most hate it.

Genisis, was a total trainwreck and IMO a complete embarrassment, the sequence where The the old Arnold is waiting for the Terminator in 1984 is among the worst and poorly directed scenes I've ever scene in a movie....that sequence was supposed to be ICONIC and a Giant selling point for the movie ...instead it was a complete and utter creative fail.

They tried to "JJ Abrams Star Trek" The Terminator franchise with Geniss and It failed on about as an epic level as one could fail on.....It was an AWFUL idea to begin with but to have any chance at success, they needed an Excellent director, lol and instead they pick a complete Hack in Taylor..

overall though...

I will continue enjoying the Terminator franchise for years to come....Illl rewatch the movies ever few years and enjoy them

That’s easy - it’s because they didn’t have James Cameron behind the camera.
