$256m WW vs $185m Budget

$185,000,000 x 2.5 multiplier = $462,500,000

Is this the biggest loss for a huge blockbuster movie ever?

reply

Looks like the biggies are Lone Ranger, John Carter, Solo, Pan, King Arthur, Wrinkle in Time, TomorrowLand, Mortal Engines, Dark Phoenix, and now..TDF.

good find, thanks.

Mortal Engines seemed like it would be a good movie, but it was really bad.

reply

I was/still am intrigued about Mortal Engines ..but refuse to pay more than a couple of pounds for the DVD lol

reply

Don't even bother for free.

reply

its def an intriguing movie and concept but it just didn't live up to expectations. its starts off pretty cool but then gets weird and boring...

WORLDWIDE

Really bad numbers for such a great franchise, its sad to see it end like this.

reply

Well, when they pull off unforgivable stunts like casually killing John Connor (like Newt in Alien3), they have only themselves to blame.

reply

Not that it makes much difference but why a 2.5 multiplier? I thought the usual rule of thumb x2.

reply

Actually it's x1.5 is the general saying. The budget plus an additional 50% for advertisement. Most studios are not crazy enough to spend a movie's budget on advertisement.

reply

You've totally ignored the theaters cut of movie tickets. They don't show movies for free.

reply

It deserves it for killing John Connor and replacing him with a girl. WTF were they thinking???

reply

TG already killed JC. They even made him a bad guy and killed him. Besides, the franchise is called Terminator not JC. T3,4,5 were all about John and they sucked. T1 didn't even feature him and was a great movie.

reply

John Connor is THE MAIN CHARACTER, you IDIOT! Without him, there is no Human Resistance and no Victory over the Machines!!

reply

This is nowhere close to being the worst bomb ever.

reply

not the worst bomb ever, but for the terminator franchise, its pretty bad...

reply

"This is nowhere close to being the worst bomb ever."

Adjusted for inflation, it's the 7th worst box office bomb of all time. Considering that there are approximately half a million theatrical movies in existence, being in the top ten does indeed make it pretty close to being the worst box office bomb ever.

reply

Thanks for putting light onto the subject.
Burningsun hasn't a clue.

reply

This movie has $185 mil budget? The movie doesn't even look that expensive. The CGI was janky and the young actors were not famous. Where did all the money go? Ah-nuld?

reply

sarah conner?

reply

Ikr , the CGI was abit meh in parts (the opening beach scene looked pretty bad, the big plane sequence looked abit CG), no names aside 2 (Arnold probably got 15m as no show up until last third. Linda prob get like 5m but maybe more bc of metoo movement. MDavies maybe 2m as she's pretty much the lead. and DaniRamos maybe 500k? or more bc.. you know) ILM probably wanted like 30m for the FX and Cameron probably billed them about 10m for the few skype meetings he attended on his lunch break from directing Avatar. and allowing them to use his name on the credits/posters

It feels more like a 100m film. Maybe it was like 120m but the studio just said its a huge near 200m budget as usual bc its expected bc its Terminator
