shareAgreed, this show doesn't feel like it could go as long. I hope not. I really like it right now, but it's just not built for 12 years.
shareI don't know, it might if they let it play out like Sheldon talks about his family in TBBT. Since he said his father is dead and was an alcoholic, I have a feeling he will be revealed to be a closet drinker and it will more and more come out in his behavior that's he's been drinking and Sheldon's mother will become more religious, if that is possible.
shareIt's possible that it's just his assumption that his father was an alcoholic. We do know the father will die, and he's already given us a voice-over foreshadowing of it.
I hope it doesn't last 12 years. I'd be happy with 3 really good ones. It's FAR better than I assumed it would be, and I think the kid is spot-on. Everyone in it is very good, in fact.
I agree that it's possible Sheldon just makes that extreme assumption of a father who maybe only drank within normal range. Sheldon's view of "regular" human habits is nearly always a harshly-judged one and it's entirely possible he has an exaggerated belief about the level of his father's drinking habits.
I'm really enjoying discovering what a decent man his dad actually was! I like this dad immensely. He's a good father and a decent, calm, steady person with a light, humorous touch, not at all the horrible person painted via things said on The Big Bang Theory.
The young actor who plays little Sheldon is as cute as a button! The same could be said for Fred Savage when he started in The Wonder Years. But after about three years, most cute little boys lose that little boy cuteness. Boys enter that awkward adolescent stage before they emerge on the other side and start to look good again.
I loved The Wonder Years, but it went on too long. It just lost its charm when Kevin became a teen-ager. I hope the same thing doesn't happen with this show. Three good seasons would be enough, I think.
I'd be totally happy with something done really well for 3 seasons then to let it go. I'm really enjoying this show and now when i watch Sheldon on TBBT I think about him when he was a boy. I like this better than TBBT by far.
