I loved it! The original is still the best in my opinion, but I really did like this one. It was a pleasant surprise :)

To get the impression that no one else liked it look at the posts on this board. Before it was even made people were saying no one needs it, then after it existed they complained about every aspect of it.

The people who have seen it and posted here are almost unanimously positive about it.

Personally I wish they'd adapted the sequel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator where Charlie, Wonka, and Charlie's family end up going into outer space where they encounter evil Aliens. I have no interest in this prequel.

It was a lot better than I thought it would be. Good songs, too. Nice to hear some actual music compositions instead of Lin-Manuel hack-garbage.

To me, it felt like a stage musical adaptation, even though it isn't. Kind of unique and fun, albeit a little forgettable. I wish the songs had been catchier.

I quite liked it, which surprised me as a lover of the original version. The Depp version is actually bad imo, this wasn't, and I loved the music.

I did not. It never felt like a Dahl story. It was too dull to be one. It is an unnecessary prequel/spinoff that would spoil the magic one experienced in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) as a child. The songs were bad and it slowly became a musical rather than a proper film.

It was very successful and so more are threatened. Presumably they would show further events in Wonka's life which led him up to becoming the character Gene Wilder portrayed. This version rejected the Johnny Depp version as in that one, Wonka had only a father, in this one, Wonka had only a mother.

I think the term was used more for humorous sarcasm (I laughed) than the poster feeling threatened.

In any case, the expression "more are threatened" doesn't mean the poster would feel threatened by any future releases, but that the producers themselves are threatening to foist more crap on the public (and no, I don't know if it's crap as I haven't seen it).

Sarcasm and humor don't always translate to the written page.

the alphabet people use the term when they are faced with people that don't like what they stand for.

That would be a logical and reasonable conclusion. Since the "regular person" singled out and highlighted the mechanics of anal sex between men. Unless it was straight men the "regular" was referring to.

I thought the father angle in the Depp version was clever. I liked when the old man threatened to leave Willie if he didn't obey, and his father did - not only him but he took his brownstone cut out of the rest of the building. Later, when Willie found where he went, the brownstone was freestanding where he took it.

I was never expecting a connection with either as a matter of fact. The comparison I made is to show that I was much more entertained watching the 2005 film. That's the Wonka Dahl had imagined, this was just a money grab. And looking at the figures, it served the purpose.

I feel these guys shouldn't make a unnecessarily make a spin off and spoil the classic tale. Just my opinion though :-)

I thought it was pretty good. Chalamet made for a decent Wonka. I love the original with Wilder, and this remake was probably as good as it gets when compared to that one.
