Question regarding the ending

John was shot but was it with blanks?

reply

No. Winston actually shot him. But I think Winston staged it without John realizing/knowing (if I'm right, Winston has a lot of explaining to do to John and repair stuff between them). I think Winston knew John would've survived the fall or at least took the risk. If you noticed, he unloaded on John Wick's suit since he knew the suit was bulletproof. With knowing that about the suit, and if he really wanted to kill John, Winston could've easily just shot John in the head and saved all those bullets. So I think Winston is up to something. Maybe putting things in place to take on The High Table. He did what he did to get the Continental/hotel back and then make The High Table and Adjudicator (the woman with short hair) think John was dead so John can catch them off guard and deal with them easily when he raids wherever The High Table is. But The Adjudicator knows John's body disappeared, so she'll probably warn The High Table that John is still out there and coming. But if John sticks to his code from the first movie, Winston is screwed aka dead. But it should be interesting to see John and Winston face off and see how the betrayal is settled/figured out. I can see it going either way of John killing Winston or John seeing the bigger picture of what Winston did and forgiving him. Maybe the whole plan is to make Winston head of The High Table. And with that, that's how John Wick gets out of the business for a second time and is allowed to retire again and get some happy ending. That's how I would write things if I were in the head writer's chair. But we'll see. But Winston used actual/real bullets. He knew John's suit was bulletproof. If he really wanted John dead, he could've just shot him in the head one time instead of unloading on him (although I think it was only 4-5 times he shot John).

How did John survive that fall though?

reply

He spent the entire movie being beat up and was fine, plus he hit stuff on the way down like in most movies where people survive such things.

He wasn't exactly in fantastic shape afterwards though.

reply

barely.

yeah that part of the movie was a bit to bogus. He fell like 35 stories and hit a metal railing at a speed that would chop him in two. I liked this movie a lot but they should have at least made that fall from somewhat survivable height

reply

His suit protects him against bullets so stands to reason it saved him from the fall. He must be in complete agony though. Regarding Winston yes he could've easily shot John the head, but instead he gave him a small chance to survive

Ahh, no. Protection agains bullets is protecting against penetration. You can do that by having a material that gets hard when hit with very high kinetic force and thus enlarging the area of impact to a size, where no penetration will occur. You will however not eliminate the force and have bruises, broken bones and concussions afterwards. The abilities of that suit are of course in the fantasy area, as is much of what is going on in that world since Wick2.

Protection against the brute force of hitting a hard surface with speed can only be done via more time/length to slow down. That is what an airbag does. Or empty card board boxes. A suit would have to be quite padded to have any effect.

Of course they might spin it either way in a supposed sequel, why Winston shot him. I did not have the impression he did it on purpose. I took it as him not being a good shooter and just aiming for the centre, lest he misses and gives Wick an opportunity to fight back. If he were a good fighter, he should have helped in the big fight. None of the other bosses seemed to be good assasins either.
