Will Smith? Boooooo.....
I am not going to be able to watch this without wishing for Robin Williams and listening to the Fresh Prince of Bad Boys.

shareReplacing a comedic genius like Robin Williams is always gonna be a step down.Smith though is a pretty big step down. He's a good actor and he can be funny but he's not in the same league as Williams.Personally i would have gone with Jim Carrey.
shareDef. Maybe Jack Black could take it in a direction too.
shareJim Carrey is too weird and saddled with political baggage these days. Frankly, I think his career is about over.
sharePolitical baggage aside, he's suffering from the Chevy Chase/Eddie Murphy/Alec Baldwin disease... He overestimates his talent and it shows on the screen.
No director can hide the weirdness that once was latent, but has bubbled to the surface. There's nothing I'll watch Carrey in anymore.
He's definitely not the performer he once was, or even the person he once was it seems. The guy has totally gone off the deep end.
The last good movie he made, in my opinion at least, was Disney's 2009 adaptation of A Christmas Carol. That was solid. That also was right around the last time he seemed like a totally normal guy as well.
Steve Harvey, as The Genie
Adam Sandler, as Aladdin
Neil Breen, as Princess Jasmine
Christopher Walken, as Jafar
Gary Shandling, as Abu
Bob Saget, as The Sultan
Gilbert Gottfried, AS Iago!
Agreed. This was quite disappointing to find out, but ya never know he could be good. Guess I can't judge until I have seen it. I honestly think they should not have made this to honor Robin Williams, but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ always wins.
shareMe watching the trailer: "Damn, this looks awesome. This might be great." Will Smith's name pops up. "F Off!"
share“Now this is the story about how a swag Genie’s life got flipped turned upside down...”
Hmm, you know what... maybe it can work. XD :P
It really is interesting how Slick Willie's fortunes have changed.
He was once the hottest commodity in Hollywood and a guaranteed $100 million at the box office, and often would bring in much more. Now it seems like, at best, people don't care about him anymore, and at worst, they outright dislike him.
I agree. That does seem to be the case. I personally do not dislike him and think that he is good in a certain kind of role...but I think that this role is to big for him. Any touches that he may put on the genie to make his own are going to be obvious and cheese. What I dont understand is how they couldn't just reuse Robin Williams voice work since the genie will probably be all CGI anyway
Well reusing Robin's lines from the animated film would creatively suffocate the writers of this one, I'm sure.
I guess we'll just see what kind of work Will Smith turns in here. But like yourself, I don't really feel like he is right for the role.
I suppose he's the best they could do, now that Williams has left us mortals. He's a good actor, he can be very funny, and doing a purely comic role will be a good career move for him.
I'm just afraid the result will be like "Solo", which I spent looking at the leading actor trying hard, and imagining how a young Harrison Ford would have done it.
