Every post about this movie I see online the comments are filled with a bunch of Snyder fanboys saying how this will flop and that they need to bring back Snyder and Canvil. I swear the Snyder fanbase might be the most delusional ever. Do they not realize most of those movies were critically panned and flopped at the box office. Snyder needed to go and Warner Bros needed to reboot their DC universe.
The Snyderverse has pretty has pretty much affected these people's brains. Apparently any Superman film without Cavill is an automatic fail or anyone who might be cast as Superman is somehow insulting Cavill and any new movie suit again insulting Cavill, I don't get.
If Superman Legacy fails it won't be because they're not carrying on from a version that was incredibly divisive or bringing back an actor who was a plank of wood the whole time he played the character.
Ironically, if this new Superman movie fails, I'm sure the insane Snyderites will gloat about that and take "credit" for it, but it will have failed for the exact OPPOSITE reason they claim.
Rather than fail because it didn't continue the Snyderverse, it may fail BECAUSE it made the SAME mistakes the Snyderverse did: giving us a "reboot" that simply REPLICATES the problems people had with the PREVIOUS incarnation, and being a pointless "reboot" that gives us the same old tired, done-to-death villains and generic 'Superman' storylines from the Richard Donner era, INSTEAD of giving us something new and interesting to watch.
Superman Returns didn't fail because it was a "loose sequel" to Superman I & II (although I was annoyed they were pretending Superman III "never happened"), it failed because they reused the SAME tired plot/characters from the Donner movies, INSTEAD of coming up with new material. They COULD have kept the first two movies canon and then gone off in a totally different direction, but nope, we got "Lex Luthor has an evil real estate scheme and is going to trick Superman with kryptonite" again.
SAME problem with the "reboot" Man of Steel, except it wasn't a loose sequel. They COULD have gone ANY direction they wanted with a new Superman "origin story". But nope, they were content to just lazily recycle the "General Zod and his henchmen escape the Phantom Zone and are hellbent on conquering Earth and getting Jor-El's son for revenge" storyline from the Donner movies, and PRETEND they were being "bold" and "different" by tweaking it a bit so there was some convoluted subplot about a "world engine".
Will Superman Legacy FINALLY avoid that problem and ACTUALLY give us a NEW storyline THIS time? Possibly. But seeing how they have 75 years of comic book source material to introduce NEW characters and INSTEAD we're getting Lex Luthor, Miss Tessmacher, and Otis.... it's not looking good...
Just because they're using Lex, Miss Teschmacher and Otis doesn't mean they're gonna be the same characters as they were in the Christopher Reeve movies, even Supergirl have a Miss Tessmacher and Otis that were nothing like they were in 1&2.
SR failed not just because it was a loose sequel but has a miscast Lois Lane and lack of action.
We'll see. The Snyderverse claim how they were "trying to be new and different" turned out to put General Zod in a tank-like costume and have him scream "I will find him!" instead of "Kneel Before Zod!" and throw in some convoluted crap about a "world engine". Other than that, it was the SAME story and characters they just shamelessly recycled from the Donnerverse (Zod & co-horts are imprisoned for their treachery, Krypton is unstable and self-destructs, Zod & his-cohorts then escape the Phantom Zone and head to earth, vowing revenge on Jor-El by finding his son Kal-El, then wreck havoc on Earth and unleash merciless death and destruction until Superman confronts them, blah blah blah) INSTEAD of giving us something GENUINELY "new and different", when they had 70+ years of source material and could use literally ANY "origin story" they wanted.
I will be pleasantly surprised and shocked if THIS Lex, Miss Teschmacher, and Otis have a completely different role in the story than their Donnververse counterparts.
I think anyone with common sense or could look at things objectively can see rebooting and recasting Superman was inevitable.
Remember when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman, there was an awful lot of hate from fans who thought it was gonna be a disaster, but then everybody was praising Keaton once they saw the suit, so is it possible Superman Legacy might be good? cause Snyder fans can't move past the fact Cavill is no longer Superman, they're can't fathom it.
The most Superman we got in movies in the last ten years was Captain America in the MCU.
Think people are so attached to the image of Henry Cavill as Superman that they want him to play the role forever or don't think about what could be.
The most Superman Cavill ever was is in Josstice League the version of Justice League that everybody hates.
The Sad truth is that general audiences and the normies of the world have moved on from Cavill's Superman and may have forgotten he was Superman largely because WB and DC didn't exploit him as Superman.
I did not mind Cavills superman but I did not like Snyder's BVS or Justice League films but I still think this movie is going to flop and it wont be better than MOS.
Superman has been done between films and tv sooooo much over the past 4 decades. And now it seems audiences are getting a little fatigue of the genre so I dont think starting another franchise to build a bigger franchise is going to work.
Batman is a character that they can still get money from because he doesn't need a gigantic budget and has a fanbase without larger audiences to make a ton of money. But there is no new take Gunn "competent studio guy but no visionary" has that is going to bring audiences back to Superman movies.
Snyder cultists are trying to boycott everything Superman until Henry Cavill is back because what else are they gonna do? what about going outside for fresh air as long as you can move past this one actor who is central to your life, what about giving other actors a shot? seems like a crazy notion to them giving other actors a shot, we've seen how they treated Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh's return in Crisis and now David Corenswet.
Snyder fans say they want Henry Cavill but don't support any of the products he's in, if they wanted him back they needed to support Black Adam and they didn't do that, it's easier for them to go on YouTube or social media demanding that Cavill's return.
