nice name calling

Bruh, it's supposed to be a fun popcorn movie, and not something to be taken seriously.

reply

I've never believed ( stupid == fun ) ... but maybe that's just a me thing.

I think it sounds like a fun premise. Whether or not the film ends up being stupid remains to be seen.

I have, in the past, enjoyed many of Emmerich's movies. Independence Day and The Patriot are both great. Midway is pretty good as well. Stargate is at least worth a watch and I'd say the same about The Day After Tomorrow.

He does have some shitty films as well. The Independence Day sequel was a massive and heart-breaking disappointment. But I'm hoping that Moonfall ends up being one of his good movies.

Yeah, I feel I can predict the answer to that to be 100% positive.

Never saw Patriot because I automatically think those American fairy tales are to be avoided. Midway was at least a real thing. A good story to tell would be the Battle of Coral Sea. I did like Stargate, basically as a kid. Day After Tomorrow had a point at least. You realize you are using mostly non-stupid movies to give hope to a definitely gonna-be stupid movie?

I never liked Independence Day.

I can accept the premise as being that of "sci-fi fantasy" and approach it on that level. I can accept that the event that occurs is plausible within the universe of the film, so long as it conforms to the film's own internal logic.

I will concur that the film is "stupid" if things regularly happen that seem impossible even within the film's own universe, or if the plot is either mostly non-existent or disjointed and hard to make sense of. The story needs to be clear and it needs to go in unexpected directions to hold my attention.

The movie can succeed with me as long as the plot keeps me engaged and I actually think the characters are interesting.

6 year olds are geniuses, children can learn a whole new language from scratch, they learn more in their first 6 years of life than most adults learn from college.

Thank you, Solastine. It’s good to have some thinkers left after the mass exodus over here.

reply

Not the first time. Space 1999 had the moon exiting the solar system because a nuclear waste dump went critical. They also crashed more spacecraft than they started with.

reply

Yeah, for a British TV series that was pretty brain dead.

reply

Yeah...but at least the chicks looked good. ;-)

If you like that helmet hairstyle, and the matronly look of ??? Martin Landau's wife ... Barbara Bain was it? Not a lot of skin showing if I remember right. S-1999 was one of those shows I would settle on when there was nothing else to be found flicking through the channels. Always on UHF channel 36. ;-)

reply

Yeah, but I wasn't talking about Bain in particular. There was some nice looking supporting cast...miniskirts and gogo boots.

reply

I think you are mixing Space 1999 up with Aandersons previous series, UFO. That's the show that had girls in miniskirts and go go boots etc...and in the case of Skydiver crew, see through string vests.

In Space 1999 there was hardly any flesh on display at all, people mainly wore all in one jump suits.

Interestingly, a second series of UFO was commissioned, but they revamped it and changed the whole premise and it became Space 1999 instead.

reply

Rogue, I checked it out, and you are right!! Thanks for the clarification!

I learned something too.

I LOVED "Space: 1999"! Yes, the premise was hella NUTS! But once it was going, they had really good science-fiction stories in their first season. You just have to get past the premise.

reply

This seems more like a Devlin gig than Emmerich.

reply

nothing mysterious about it ...

This sounds INCREDIBLY stupid! But it is the first two months of the year, and this is what you should expect.

I personally think that it will be fun enough to go to, just for laughs.
