Great premise, bad execution
needed better direction.
shareAgreed.. was so looking forward to this movie and was disappointed. Characters were flat, and frankly, not that likeable. The boob and sex jokes we're tiresome. Wayyy too long. God the potential this could have had.. And to be honest, they didn't evoke the 80s that well. Sure there were a few things like the milk cartons, the Colecovision box, etc. but it just didn't feel that nostalgic to me - and this is coming from a kid born in the 70's and brought up in the 80's. This movie just fell short.
sharewhat would you have changed/added for a better 80's atmosphere? just curious.
shareMy favorite part is when they turn over the evidence to the police, then go back home without any police protection. Then decide to all just go to bed at a reasonable hour.
Despite knowing the killer is out there, knows where you live, and has identified you as his next victim.
Couldn't stay up watching movies in the living room together? Maybe have a weapon nearby just in case? Or request a cop to watch the house?
Nah, it's bedtime. 9:00, lights out guys! Nothing to worry about. Sweet dreams!
I disagree, it was great. I liked the characters who were not over the top caricatures.
shareI liked it, sure it had its WTF moments and I feel like its not 80's enough but it does the trick imo.
It reminded me of Stranger Things. I wouldn't call it a bad execution. It was pretty good actually.
I'd say excellent premise, so-so execution.
I grew up in the 80s and graduated HS in 85. Part of it evoked a solid 80s-vibe. As for the girl and boob jokes, I was a semi-nerd, and while slightly offensive to watch/hear it all in the movie in 2018, in 1984, was definitely in the realm of reasonable.
I wasn't expecting much based on the IMDB rating, but I enjoyed it from start to finish. I have a thing for '80s themed movies though. The kids' acting was all very good, there were a few LOL moments and the music was AWESOME. No regrets!
