Bridges' Speech Defect

Did Jeff always talk like an old man? I thought when he was younger his diction was fine.

Did he have a stroke or something?

Love his acting. Just curious.

pretty sad question but if you watched some of his other films like true grit he does have a strange way of talking almost hard to understand, of course the dude abides, my favorite was star man and would have to see but I do think he always talked in his unique voice it just goes to show what a great actor he is that no one cares

While watching this, I kept thinking of him in king Kong. What a difference...and the younger version was spot on.

All the Bridges grumble more or less. Jeff also had cancer and treatment might have also had an effect on his voice.

Are you retarded? Did you have a stroke?

He's talked like this for a long while, though it's certainly gotten more pronounced in his last few performances (True Grit, yes, and also Hell or High Water).

Someone on one of these movie boards who claimed he was doctor in the area of dentistry (orthodontics or something, I don't remember) who said that it's something Bridges has had for a long time.

I noticed that the actor playing the younger Dan Chace was doing a good job with way he moved his mouth (even when not speaking, he was doing that thing that Jeff Bridges sometimes does with his mouth).

He sounded fine in Tron.
