Confused -- it seemed like there were two creatures (spoilers, obviously)

So, I was confused when I saw the creature attached to the British dude's leg. When the French lady died, I had been under the impression that the creature was still outside and attempting to get back in. So when I saw it attached to the British guy, I thought there must have been two of them. How the hell did no one notice the creature entering the pod and feeding on him that whole time? Especially given the size it was by then?

There was never 2 creatures. It was indeed outside the ship while the lady was trying to fix the communications....but it got back inside through the engine thrusters. When it wrapped itself around the science guys' leg, it was still relatively small....and he didn't know it was there because he had no feeling in his legs.
