Is anyone even looking forward to the Van Helsing TV Series?

The cast looks decent enough, but who is going to play the Monsters we all known in love? Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, and The Mummy etc.?

reply

From reading its her and the group against just Vampires.

reply

Bummer, I was hoping for all Universal Monsters to come in.

reply

I suppose wardrobe cost for each character, and then a new intro story for each episode. Cheaper I guess for one,and just play the story as it goes.

reply

Me, I am going to watch but if the writing is bad the show will not last. The cast looks ok but who knows this might be good. So no Dracula?!The vampires must have a leader. I guess it is one of the male actors. It reminds me of Blade the series, I was was so sad that it did not receive a second season.

reply

I love Blade the Series too!

I've seen the pilot of Syfy's Van Helsing. I'm not too keen on the show. I predict that it will get cancelled, just like NBC's Dracula, of which I've also only seen the pilot. Both shows are TV-14.

The question is, are TV-14 classification and vampire shows compatible?

Vampire movies and TV shows are better when they are rated R, 18+, or TV-MA, aren't they? For example, Underworld, True Blood, American Horror Story...

The only vampire drama with a TV-14 classification that intrigued me is The Vampire Diaries, because I fell in love with Katherine Pierce, the deepest, the most beautiful and tragic character in the entire series, and the closest thing to an Anne Rice style vampire in the show. I'm not a fan anymore, because without Katherine, it is just a teenage love triangle soap drama.

I prefer vampire movies, shows, and characters that are dark.

I read a little about the show on Hollywood Reporter. No Dracula, Dimitri is the vampire leader. They started filming this week and it will be released in September.

Julian is also a vampire.
Aleks Paunovic (iZombie, The 100) has joined the cast of Van Helsing, Syfy’s 13-episode drama about the legendary vampire slayer’s daughter, TVLine has learned. He will recur as Julian, a mysterious and powerful bloodsucker
Maybe some more will come on as they film or just so low not to say. Hopefully a girl vampire some time.

reply

Yeah, but I'd want to see some Universal Monsters in season 2 maybe.

reply

They bring in extra different type people in shows like flash and those others. I would suppose its in how popular this gets or they want it to be more popular.

reply

I am looking forward to it because the wonderful Amanda Tapping is directing the first episodes. She is brilliant and I trust her to get the very best from the script and the actors. That is not saying she can save something that is an absolute disaster, but I do trust her to get it right. She knows this genre perfectly.

reply

That for me too is the interest.

Neil Labute is one of the best writers of his generation.

And I love Kelly Overton.

And Van Helsing. And a Vampires Apocalypse.

I just found out about this show 5 minutes ago and can't wait. I'm game.

P.S.

Van Helsing doesn't really deal with Werewolves or any of the other universal monsters. That is just in that stupid movie. The Van Helsings are a vampire hunter family and each generation as portrayed in various media is always there to battle Draculas many resurrections. Abraham Van Helsing is the first from the Bram Stoker novel.

I think adding werewolves and gillmen and mummies would take away from the show. I hope its dark, gritty and hopeless.

reply

Citizenstonie, you'll be very pleased to know it has the darkness of nails drawing up the back bone to the base of the skull that you've been looking for.

Neil LaBute, along with the talents of Simon Barry and Jonathan Walker, just to name a few, bring an immersive blood lust of a world that will deeply involve bringing one's fears to the forefront.

A great amount of respect earned for Kelly Overton from cast and crew for where she committed to this role. Jonathan Scarfe brings it as Axel.

Serious casting with Heyerdahl, Gale, Paunovic, Johansson and a few more shocking talents that will ignite some major attention.

The cinematography of Brendan Uegama brings something utterly bloody gorgeous.

A new age of darkness... begins.

reply

It looks cool, but I hope she doesn't turn into another "town bike" vampire/monster hunter character.

I will watch it just to see if it is canceled faster than that other Dracula show a few years ago with King Henry8 from Tudors.

But the premise is just dumb. Either give us the real Van Helsing, or dont even bother. His daughter? Who cares other than fem/nazis. Or is this some atempt to cash in & rip off Buffy?

reply

Vanessa being bloodline of Van Helsing plays an important role. This is a grittier series than what you may be expecting, this is brutal. The screenwriters and talent will prove themselves incredibly well.

reply

Hopefully it will be nothing like that terrible Van Helsing movie with Hugh Jackman.
