Eggers should do a Lovecraft adaptation

I was already thinking this after I saw the Lighthouse, but having just seen Nosferatu, I do now fully believe, that Eggers could do a great adaptation of Lovecraft's work. Something like At the Mountains of Madness or Call of Cthulhu would be fitting material for Eggers. Or if he'd want to do something more low key, maybe the Temple or Rats in the Walls.

I'd say it would be a shame if he'd never do at least one. His style feels very fitting for Lovecraft.

reply

Moby Dick would be a good one for him.

reply

I can see that.

reply

Good idea.

reply

Hollywood won't fund anything that's straight up from Lovecraft's work unless it's to make shit like Lovecraft Country.

reply

No don’t let him ruin that too

reply

I thought the same after seeing The Lighthouse! Unfortunately, Lovecraft doesn't seem to transition easily to movies for some reason. Funnily enough, I read an article about exactly that in a UK horror mag a few months back.

reply

This hipster better not touch it.

Besides, Lovecraft got canceled, so there is no way to get a big Hollywood lovecraftian movie.

Last Gilermo Del Toro was trying to bring At the mountains of madness, but failed because Prometheus basically has the same plot and this was before the cancelation.

reply

Just watch the Lighthouse. It's the most Lovecraftian movie ever made. Eggers would be a solid fit for director.

reply

I watched it and didn't like it at all. Hipster artsy-fartsy rip off of European movies.

reply

I take it you haven’t seen many lovecraftian horror movies to make such a hyperbolic and inaccurate statement. “Prince of Darkness” is more cosmic horror than the Lighthouse

reply

Prince of Darkness uses Lovecraft the same way most games use Lovecraft, a coat of paint. Lighthouse is pure Lovecraft in style and spirit and it's not even Lovecraft.

reply

No it doesn’t, lighthouse has barely anything to do with Lovecraft. Prince of Darkness actually delves into the themes of cosmic horror by elaborating on the insignificance of human existence and being on the verge of being wiped out by ancient gods. Carpenter understood that more than Egghead ever could.

reply

Actually, the most recent Lovecraftian movie is "Leave the world behind". True "fear of the unknown".

reply

'Besides, Lovecraft got canceled'

And I'm sure he's devastated! 😎
