Okay, can we all just agree that was bad writing?

So Emily is told that Cassidy is a vampire- can you deal with that? \
Um okay.
Now feed him these animals...
Um okay.

Then calling up the mayor for help (and I saw it coming btw, very cheap shock) and then serving him up to Cassidy?
That was some serious pathetic writing. First off, it was predictable. Secondly; it was completely out of character. There was no indication that she had any homicidal tendencies , let alone to the mayor character. Yeah she had no interest in him romantically, yes she pitied him, but there was zero, and I mean ZERO build-up for her to do this.
There was zero build-up for her to murder a person so brutally. She didn't like Cassidy to begin with, and even if you like Cassidy, that doesn't mean you wouldn't just serve up someone to him just like that. Especially a VAMPIRE- a creature which shouldn't exist BTW but it didn't took long for her to just up and believe that...
Some people online compared her actions to Breaking bad... What? Breaking bad is solid writing, a shock is something that should come organically. It was right in your face, hints were there, and then suddenly the truth is out. Walter White had been losing his humanity slowly, before he completely lost it. It wasn't out of character, we understood it.

It was horrendous writing, a cheap shock. Fan of the comic or not, can we at least agree to that?

It really annoys me that people just accept this. I understand liking this show but come on people.

What do you think this series is? Sopranos? Boardwalk empire?

This is an over-the-top, exaggerated series, and it's done that way on purpose.

Emily perhaps secretly hated the mayor enough, because of years of annoyances and the fact that he contributed to the downfall of the church and Jesse, that when she saw an opening to get rid of him, she did.

They are all dead anyway.

Well which one is it? Can't be both.

reply

No its really not. If you'd been paying attention you'd known Emily was catching on to the shady dealing of the mayor with Quincannon. Especially the murder of those company execs. He's also actively working against Jessy whom she is in love with. The mayor is also beginning to force himself upon her stating that "He's spending the entire night this time" which sounds just a little rapey. You also have the Norman Bates speech in the background prior talking about being caged in, which the mayor has essentially been doing to her the entire show.

reply

No!
It's always the same, when someone who enjoys only drama, action or adventure critizizes fantasy, science fiction or just absurd drama and cover his reluctance (sometimes his lack of understanding) with pseudo facts like 'bad writing'.

reply

Agreed, just because you don't understand it - doesn't mean it's 'bad writing'. Sheesh.

If it is out of character, how can it be predictable? Surely action out-of-character is unpredictable??

reply

wow..People don't just accept it, they like it enough to defend it..

This show is really poorly written, I agree, as if it was put together by a committee of fanboys who want to remake Oliver Stone's Savages ... I wanted to like it, and I "payed attention" to all the nuances of the characters but Emily feeding Cassidy the Mayor? That was where I stopped being invested. Preacher is an irredeemable mess. For me this is the television equivalent to Suicide Squad: all the work went into hyping and promoting the concept, but unfortunately the execution turned out to be lazy and uninspired. Terrible, terrible writing, stupid accents, and lots and lots of pandering to the lowest common denominator. I can't believe I watched so much of this schlock disguised as counter-culture. Seth Rogen can eat my shorts.

^ Totally agree with everything you wrote.

It seems people are just taking this show way to serious especially when trying to read between the lines. Its' just a TV show! I just find it a fun and hilarious show to watch to help me escape reality. Another show, "People of Earth", which just came out, seems similar in some ways like, "Preacher". Shows you shouldn't take seriously, just sit and enjoy it.
