How many comic fans like this show?

I'm a huge fan of the comic and really wanted to love this show. As it stands, the show is decidedly average. It's a decent enough time pass, but it's no where close to greatness.

To me it seems like a grade school version of the comic. Even though the comic was way over the top, it had a thick layer of subtext and social commentary that seems to be entirely stripped from the show.

Most of the changes made are either worse, or fundamentally alter the story and characters from the comic.

Jesse and Tulip are nothing like the comic at all.

I'm a fan of the comics but I think have some issues. Pacing and editing be major ones. I think the show has done a better job of telling a cohesive story than comics have done. I understand that they will never be able to show a lot of the more extreme things from the comics but it really doesn't bother me that much.

I enjoy them both myself. One thing to remember about the comics is that they're a pretty fast read. In a one hour show you could easily fit in three issues, so even with tie-ins if the show was too faithful the series would probably be over in three seasons. While the show occasionally goes the other extreme in terms of pacing, I think it does a good job of finding its own niche. And occasionally it manages to do something as twisted as the comics even when it's new to the series.

I love comic book so my expectations were quite high. But what I saw it was disastrous, just complete defeat. The main reason why this show is sooooo baaaad it is they tried to extend Gone to Texas and Ancient History (partially) way too much. It should take 3-4 episodes not 10! I do not want to event mention bad script: Jesse using his voice non stop, Tulip shagging with Cassidy, new characters - hell only knows why, irritating and boring dialogues and scene in church in episode 10 - what a crap.
It still may be good show but not with this screenplay attitude.

I like the show and I've been a huge fan of Preacher since issue 1. Yes it's way different, but, honestly, if I wanted the comic's story all over again I'd read the comic.

The show keeps the over-the-top attitude of the comic and although the story and characters don't mesh with the comic during season 1 that's not necessarily a bad thing. I suspect season 2 will be more along the lines we know.

Now don't get me wrong I don't love this show as much as I wanted to. But the first season was good enough to make me want to see season 2. That'll do.
